Dear Colleague, 

As professionals in the psychotherapy community, tragedy calls us to arms.  In the aftermath of the recent tragic violence in Aurora, our dedication to healing victims of trauma is a beacon of hope for a community in great need.

I want to personally invite you to support our binding cause by attending a workshop geared at promoting the principles of mindfulness and non-violence, with the goal of capitalizing on and celebrating natural human resilience. 

Please join us Sunday September 2nd, 2012 for a FREE Workshop at the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute: 

Coping with Community Trauma: A Workshop to Support Professionals and Laypersons in the Aftermath of the Aurora Tragedy

Cost:  There is no registration fee for this workshop, but donations are appreciated (suggested minimum donation $50).

All donations go to the Community First Foundation's Aurora Victims Relief Fund

This free workshop will explore the basic effects of community trauma, provide attendees with valuable information to identify symptoms of post-tragedy trauma and applicable tools to use in daily life and relationships. All proceeds from the workshop will go to the Community First's fund for Aurora victims.

It is our hope that this free workshop will provide a few tools to contribute to the healing of the Aurora community and the individuals suffering the direct effects of violence, as well as build community through partnership and education.

Pat NewPat Ogden, PhD, is founder and director of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, an internationally recognized school that specializes in training psychotherapists in somatic/cognitive approaches for the treatment of trauma, developmental and attachment issues. She is a co-founder of the Hakomi Institute, served on the faculty of The Naropa University in the Somatic Psychology and Contemplative Psychology departments from 1985 to 2005, and lectures internationally. Dr. Ogden is trained in a wide variety of somatic and psychotherapeutic approaches and has worked with a diversity of populations, including prison inmates, psychiatric inpatients and survivors of trauma. As a pioneer in somatic psychotherapy and the treatment of trauma, she has 34 years experience working with individuals and groups. She is the first author of the groundbreaking book, Trauma and the Body: A Sensorimotor Approach to Psychotherapy, which was published in the fall of 2006 in the interpersonal neurobiology series of W.W.Norton and is in its sixth printing.
