[emrat:9956] The Sunday Ride

Hello everyone,

In checking the weather, if we ride on Sunday the 6th, we are likely to encounter rain.  In light of that, we will postpone the normal Sunday ride by one week.

So it will be 8/13.  More details to come.  Cheers!

Manuel

Impressive turnout considering the soggy weather all day.

[emrat:9954] 100,000 ft ride this Saturday

Hi Guys,

The 100,000 Foot Ride this coming Saturday is sold out.  I have an extra registration that I can offer to anyone wanting to join the ride.  I did it for the first time last year, and found a number of Colorado passes that I didn't know about. You can ride with a small group, or do a single ride.  Contact me if you are interested.  I will be riding the paved route, but the dual sport ride would be fun to do too.  The route will be revealed when riders register at Foothills BMW between 7:15 and 8:30 on Saturday.  The ride ends someplace in Denver (also revealed at registration) at the catered dinner location.

Jay Clawson

Here is description of the event from BMWMCC website:

The BMW Motorcycle Club of Colorado and Foothills BMW Motorcycles present our premier and longest running all-day event ride. This ride is designed to take you over enough mountain passes in a day to equal 100,000 feet. This accomplishment is not achievable any place else in North America and perhaps the world. The 100,000 Foot Ride combines some of the best motorcycle roads and stunning scenery the State has to offer. The event includes both paved and dirt routes to accommodate the increasing number of dual sport riders. The total mileage for either route will be less than 500 miles. Registration is $36 and is limited to 200 riders. Included is a continental breakfast, catered dinner, commemorative t-shirt and pin and door prizes. Early registration is encouraged. Online registration cut off is July 15th. Walk-up registration is accepted only as space permits but a T-shirt, pin, and dinner are not guaranteed.

RE: [emrat:9952] Eclipse 2017

In my defense . . . well, OK, I have no defense.  I plead guilty to the charge of being a bad influence on Brian Weberg.

I have never asserted, however, that buying a motorcycle is a rational act.

I will say that buying a bike unseen over the Internet from somewhere else in the US is a sure-fire way to induce chronic insomnia until the bike arrives.

Jake, it's the standard black with yellow contrast on the tank that was the only option on the Sport in 2004 as far as I know.   I've always admired the look.

My wife Mary and I are driving to Bend, OR where we will meet up with a gang of Mary's friends that includes an astrophysicist whose hobby is chasing these events around the world. Apparently he and his space geek friends will have lots of toys available to view the eclipse.  Obviously, I'm not part of this planning (which has been in progress for about a year) but I guess we have access to open space somewhere north of Bend where we will experience "totality."  Yes, I'm psyched.

P.S.  I just purchased a 2004 Triumph Thunderbird Sport on Ebay from a seller on Long Island, NY.  My many days and years of hanging around with Mr. Pilcher have finally caused me to do irrational things.  Anyway, it's scheduled to ship next week.  Looks like it's in great shape.  Only 1300 miles.  Fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan.

If you didn't know, on August 21st, there will be an eclipse viewable by everyone in North America.  The path of totality will follow a line from Oregon to South Carolina.  I had intended to take a vacation day for Monday the 21st, ride up on Sunday and motorcycle camp. My son has seized the opportunity to miss a day of school so I am now driving with the wife, son and dog. Current expectations are that traffic is going to be a cluster suck getting to and from the path of totality on Monday the 21st.   This is a once in a lifetime event, if you have a chance to view it.  If you decide to stay in Denver, the moon will provide about 93% coverage of the sun

I will be camping out near Alliance, Nebraska at the venue of the Alliance Toad Stock Festival.

http://www.toadstockevents.com/    - as far as I know, they still have basic sites available

Here are some additional links that may be helpful.

There might still be some availability here just south east of Alliance, I have their contact information if you are interested.

When I last checked, they were asking  :

--$125 a night for RV spot up to 2 People

--$75 a night for Tent up to 2 people

additional person $20

kids under 12 $10

additional vehicle $10
