Re: SLC

I have to decide between a September fly trip to either Michigan, Aspen, or SLC....I only get one of them, dang it.  My trip will likely have to be the second week of September, though, sometime after the 8th or 9th.  As usual, I would be happy to show anyone around to all of the Northern Michigan dune flying sites.  I typically fly into Detroit, rent a car and drive up to the club site (about 3 1/2 hours) and stay on their premises either camping or in a small cabin they have on the site.  All of the launch sites are within about a 35 to 40 minute drive from the club and are located around the very northwest corner of lower Michigan.  Launches face anywhere from SW to W to NW to N to NNE.  Most of the dunes are around 400 feet high above Lake Michigan.  September should be a good time of year for lake thermals as well as the usual Westerly wind flow for the ridge lift.  It is very scenic.  You can get info by googling either Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore or Greenpoint Flyers Association.
