[The Network] Denver Getting Ahead Course for Low-Income Customers

Are you, or do you know someone that is, experiencing poverty conditions, live in the City and County of Denver, and want to participate in an intensive investigative, resource-building course to increase your quality of life and self-sufficiency, while participating in a community-wide anti-poverty initiative?  If so, then apply for the Denver Getting Ahead Program!

The Denver “Bridges Out of Poverty and Getting Ahead” project will bring Denver low-income customers (through a Getting Ahead course), together with local non-profits, faith-based organizations, Denver stakeholders, leaders and businesses to incorporate Bridges Out of Poverty frameworks into anti-poverty programs within the Denver community and its institutions.

PROJECT MISSION

The project mission is to build resources, improve job retention rates, reduce health inequities, improve outcomes, and support those who are moving out of poverty (through the Getting Ahead course), and to incorporate a Bridges Out of Poverty framework when dealing with issues of poverty and to take actions to improve the resources available to low-income populations, and the Denver community at-large, as a result of strategic systems-changes.

OUR GOAL

Getting Ahead is intended for people who are highly motivated to move out of poverty and who want to seek and maintain full time employment and/or build resources to further their self-sufficiency. Each participant will set goals in the areas of budgeting, educational training, building social capital, and other resources necessary to improve quality of life. Participants will work toward meeting these goals with the support of project staff, volunteers & institutions within the Denver community. Hard work, communication and regular attendance and participation in meetings are required.  Joining Getting Ahead means participants are willing to do whatever it takes to move to a place where an individual has enough resources and supporters in one’s life to be successful.

CLASS SCHEDULE

It is crucial that participants make ALL 11 dates in the program, the program graduation and 2 strategic planning sessions.  Make-up classes will be offered as a last resort.  The Getting Ahead course will be provided on Thursday evenings and on Saturdays beginning Saturday January 12th and will be held at El Centro Humanitario located at 2260 California St. Denver, CO 80205 on the following dates/times:
