Below are the grants, funding opportunities & other resources update from CCAA for June 2013:

 

Register Now for the 2013 Colorado Conference on Poverty August 13-16, 2013 in Grand Junction, CO!!!  Are you looking for poverty solutions and innovative practices that you can implement into your community? Then you need to attend the 4-day Colorado Conference on Poverty, it’s packed full of amazing sessions and speakers, inspiring and entertaining keynotes and great networking activities with your peers and local elected officials!   Visit www.regonline.com/conferenceonpoverty or www.coloradocommunityaction.org/events for further information and to register.

 

The CCAA is pleased to announce its 2013 CO Conference on Poverty Scholarship Application.  The CCAA has funding available to assist CO CSBG Grantee Staff/Board/Public Officials and CCAA Members to attend the 2013 Colorado Conference on Poverty.  Support could include waiving of registration fees and reimbursement of lodging/travel for the conference attendance.  Please see attached application, or visit www.coloradocommunityaction.org/scholarships for more information and for the application.

LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER for Results Oriented Management & Accountability (ROMA) Training – NEXT Tuesday June 11, 2013 in Ft. Collins, CO.  ROMA is a performance-based initiative, designed to preserve the anti-poverty focus of community action and to promote greater strategic planning. It is an established best-practice, vetted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Other Opportunities and Resources:

1.    Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade’s ColoradoCreates Grants.  This award provides financial support to help nonprofit cultural organizations and communities produce arts and cultural activities, bringing jobs to their communities and enhancing the quality of life.  Visit ColoradoCreates Grant.  Deadline: June 20, 2013.

 

2.    Assets for Independence Grant Revised 2013 Application Due Dates and Modified Funding Opportunity Announcement.  The final due date for the Fiscal Year 2013 Assets for Independence (AFI) application has been revised to June 7, 2013.  As always, applications for AFI funding can be submitted any time through grants.govAlso see ACF Grant Webpage

 

3.    American Kennel Club’s The AKC Humane Fund, Inc. Grant Application. The Fund's Women's Shelter grants are awarded for essential operational support related to the housing of pets or capital improvements specifically for the housing and maintenance of pets. To be eligible, organizations must provide temporary or permanent housing for victims of domestic abuse and their pets or provide temporary or permanent housing for pets of victims of domestic abuse and have a formal, established working relationship with at least one nonprofit shelter for victims of domestic abuse.  Visit AKC Humane Fund App.  Deadline: August 15, November 15, February 15, May 15 Annually.

 

4.    Safeway Foundation Grants. The Safeway Foundation, the philanthropic arm of grocery-retailer Safeway, supports nonprofit organizations whose mission is aligned with the company's four priority areas: hunger relief, education, health and human services, and/or assisting people with disabilities.  Visit Safeway Foundation.  Deadline: Open.

 

5.    World We Want Foundation Grants.  The World We Want Foundation is accepting applications from organizations that represent youth making positive social change in their communities and around the world. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to youth between the ages of 13 and 25 who want to make a difference through a range of social action activities, including community service projects, service-learning projects, and social ventures. Qualified applications must have a project team of one or more youths, a partner organization that supports and sponsors the team, and a project mentor to guide and advise the team.  Visit World We Want Foundation Grant. 6.    RESOURCES:  Colorado Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a best practice tool to aide for low-income individuals and families, and which can positively impact the community through retaining financial resources in a community, often that would not have been realized otherwise.

7.    RESOURCES:  Virtual CAP Resources

  • Oklahoma Tornado Relief Efforts – Please consider making a donation to the Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency to help tornado victims with temporary rental opportunities, rental deposits and utility transferals/deposits, work uniforms and specialized tools, and possibly other necessities that are crucial to them restoring their lives.
  • Tools You Can Use!  Leap of Reason: Managing to Outcome in an Era of Scarcity – Venture Philanthropy Partners Chairman Mario Morino, McKinsey & Company, and a host of notable nonprofit leaders have collaborated on a book that is inspiring leaders to take bold action to create more meaningful, measurable good for those they serve.
  • AssetPlatform.org - Financial Tools to Serve Your Community – AssetPlatform is a resource for staff at nonprofit organizations and agencies involved with financial education, coaching, asset development and other support services.  AssetPlatform.org delivers high quality information, training, and financial products and services to your desktop, allowing you to more effectively serve your community.
  • Financial Entertainment – Taking cues from business and entertainment strategies, Doorways to Dreams Fund (D2D) has created online financial education games to help consumers improve personal financial capability, self-confidence and knowledge.
  • Need Help Identifying Top-Level CAA Efforts! – We’re looking for Community Action Success Stories and Exemplary or Promising CAA Programs or Practices that might be featured under the Resource Bank of the CSBG Training/Technical Assistance Resource Center.
  • Board Chair and Executive Director Partnership Assessment – This resource is designed to assess the current status of your Board Chair-Executive Director relationship.
  • "The Line" Documentary & Discussion Guide – The Line is a documentary featuring the stories of people across the country living at or below the poverty line.  A Discussion Guide is provided to support conversations within your organization and in community settings.
  • Inocente - Academy Award WINNER - Best Documentary Short Subject – INOCENTE is both a timeless story about the transformative power of art and a timely snapshot of the new face of homelessness in America, children.  Your agency can host a screening and use the fact sheets and tools provided by the film’s website to support taking action on issues related to homelessness, undocumented children, and arts education.
  • The Road to Shared Prosperity – Add stories from your agency - the Road to Prosperity features more than 30 stories from 26 states describing ways that Community Action
  • Out of Reach 2013 – The Housing Wage in Out of Reach 2013 captures the gap between wages and rents across the country, and is the estimate of the full-time hourly wage that a household must earn to afford a decent apartment at the HUD estimated Fair Market Rent (FMR), while spending no more than 30% of income on housing costs.  The report includes a side-by-side comparison of wages and rents in every county, Metropolitan Area (MSAs/HMFAs), combined nonmetropolitan area and state in the United States.
  • Campaign to End Childhood HomelessnessAmerica's Youngest Outcasts 2010 documents the numbers of homeless children in every state, their well-being, their risk for child homelessness, and state level planning and policy activities.  State data is summarized and material can be accessed to work on preventing and ending child homelessness in your state.
  • Searching for Sugar Man - Academy Award WINNER - Best Documentary Feature – This Academy Award winning feature documentary can help with reflecting on how we much we really understand about those we serve and on our own lives as well.

10. RESOURCES:  The Center for Enterprise Development (CFED)

  • Colorado Joins the Children's Savings Accounts Movement - Over the past decade, a focus on Children’s Savings Accounts (CSAs) has defined the national conversation on savings and financial security. This month, the State of Colorado established itself as a critical leader in this movement by becoming the first to explore CSAs on a statewide scale. With the support of Ascend at the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Ascend Fund, CFED (led by Ascend Fellow Andrea Levere) and the Colorado Department of Human Services (led by Ascend Fellow Reggie Bicha) will begin developing a children’s savings pilot.
  • New Resource Directory Launches at cfed.org - CFED’s Resource Directory is not only home to all of CFED’s publications, but also an extensive library of the latest tools, research and resources on asset building and expanding economic opportunity developed by the field. You can view the resources several different ways; publications published by CFED, resources sorted by topics/issue areas or perform a customized search of the complete library.
