Ross, taking two days to get there or come back is really nice. I saw day 1 into Lake City and I assume you'll be going over cumbres on day 2. Awesome route!

Hi Gang,
Getting excited for the Triumphs in Taos rally next weekend. Carl and I are thinking of breaking up the ride to Taos over two days.
Has anyone ridden this route and recommend any good towns with cheap motels to stay halfway between Denver and Taos on this route? Is there another route people recommend down to Taos?
We are making this a four day trip. But rather than riding straight down 285 to Taos in one day, we thought we would take two days to get to the festivities on Saturday. Then, on Monday, we will go straight up 285 to get home.
