National Check Your Helmet Month

Hard Facts About Your Helmet

April is Check Your Helmet Month, which means this is the perfect time to inspect your gear and update if necessary. Because to ride, you have to be alive. And a helmet is hands down the most important piece of gear to wear on your bike.

Here are some head-saving tips to ensure your helmet is ride-ready:

  • No matter how shiny and new your helmet looks, it should be replaced every three to five years.
  • If a helmet is dropped or met with impact, it should be replaced immediately. It's designed to take only one hit, even if it's a small one.
  • Over time, UV rays, sweat and oil buildup can damage a helmet's protective qualities. Make sure you're cleaning it properly and checking the liner for damage.
  • Take your helmet to a professional at a motorcycle dealership or store for a thorough inspection.
