Public Input Sought for Denver's Five-Year Consolidated Plan

30-day public review period begins for housing and community development plan

DENVER, CO — Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 — The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) today presented its draft of the 2013-2017 Consolidated Plan for public review. The public review period ends on January 11, 2013.

A public meeting will be held to discuss the plan on Monday, December 17, 2012, 6–7:30 p.m., at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building, room 4.G.2, 201 W. Colfax Ave.

The Consolidated Plan is a report required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the City to receive housing and community development federal funding. The plan combines four program areas: Community Development Block Grant Program, HOME Investment Partnership Program, Emergency Shelter Grant Program, and the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS Program.

Denver's Consolidated Plan has funded homeownership and rental assistance programs, construction of community centers, sidewalk and alley improvements, economic development programs and programs that assist people with special needs including the elderly, homeless populations, individuals with disabilities and those with HIV/AIDS. Projects must generally benefit low- and moderate-income individuals.

The draft plan is available online at www.denvergov.org/oed, or by calling 720-913-1549. Copies can also be picked up on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Denver Business Assistance Center, located in the atrium of 201 W. Colfax Ave.

The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) is dedicated to advancing economic prosperity for the City of Denver, its businesses, neighborhoods and residents. Working with a wide variety of community partners, OED operates to create a local environment that stimulates balanced growth through job creation, business assistance, housing options, neighborhood redevelopment and the development of a skilled workforce.
