FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SNOW UPDATE FROM DENVER PUBLIC WORKS | |
DENVER, CO — February 20, 2013 – A strong cold front is predicted to arrive in the metro area late this afternoon, bringing with it three to six inches of snow. Denver Public Works crews are closely monitoring road conditions and will fully deploy when snow begins to accumulate on Denver’s main roads, or most streets with stripes. Snow showers may begin before the evening commute however accumulation on roadways is not expected until later tonight. As temperatures drop, roads may become icy; Public Works crews will monitor conditions and distribute de-icing material throughout the network as necessary. In advance of a snowy Thursday morning commute, drivers are encouraged to allow extra time to arrive at their destinations. It is important to remember that Denver requires property owners to clear their walkways so that EVERYONE has safe access throughout the City! Homeowners must shovel sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after the snow stops falling; businesses have four hours after the end of snowfall to remove snow. Residents can sign up to be a “Snow Buddy” and volunteer to help an elderly neighbor shovel their walks. More information on the Snow Buddy program is available here: http://www.voacolorado.org/Volunteer/Snow-Buddies. Visit our website, www.DenverSnowPlan.com, for more detailed information on snow removal. During snowfall, we update the website in real time to reflect current conditions and our strategies. Also, follow Denver Public Works on Twitter (@DenPublicWorks) for real time updates. ### |
