Steve - are the rooms for the night of Jul 26th and 27th, or for the nights of Jul 27th and 28th?

Hello all youse RATs!

I have received confirmation that the Black Canyon Motel in Montrose has a block of 20 (well, 19 now) rooms reserved for us under E M RAT for July 27th and 28th. The rate is $75/night plus taxes, and you choice of single king or two queen beds. The number is 800-348-3495 to make your reservation. Be there or beware.

As for the spring opener on May 19th, I have once again selected the lovely town of Westcliff, CO. Yes, I know, and we won't be going to that restaurant again. At least I won't be. I found another place to stay downtown that is a bit more, shall we say upscale, than last years accomodations. There is no attached liquor store, a demerit for sure, but there are other perks.

It is called the Courtyard Country Inn B&B. Yes it is a bed and breakfast, about 2 blocks west of the reknown Antler motel. They have a total of 8 rooms, six with a queen bed, and 2 with 2 twins. There is a courtyard that is off the street, and motorcycle parking is allowed inside if there is enough room. A full breakfast is included, along with (get this!) complimentary beer and wine! I didn't mention that some of us have been known to have a beer or two more than an average frat house party, but he didn't mention any limit to the supply, so....

Another cool thing about this place is the owner is an Iron Butt himself. His office has at least 12 Saddle Sore certificates hanging on the wall. He definitely 'gets it' and seemed more than happy to have us come up for the night. He has no other bookings yet, so we may be able to overrun the place much like last year.

The only concern is that the price is double what we paid last year; $100 for a queen and $110 for the 2 beds. When you factor in the beer, wine, and food, I think that it's not unreasonable. They can be reached at 719-783-9616. They have a web site that you can check the rooms out on www.courtyardcountryinn.com to select your favorite.

Oh yeah, one other bit of sad news. Our favorite pub, Poag's is no more. The owner up and moved to AZ and the place is boarded up. Not to fear, though. As everyone one knows, when a business opportunity oopens up, someone is ther to take advantage. Next door to the old place is a new tavern called Chappy's. I didn't have a chance to check into it, but there is also an alternative called Mavericks if it doesn't pan out.
So that's the news for now. Don't forget to book your rooms early, and we'll have a great start to the riding season. Since the world is going to end on December 21st, we ought to make the best of it, doncha think? Cheers!
