Mayor Hancock to Open Seven Free Financial Counseling Centers for  Low Income Residents

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock, the city's Office of Strategic Partnerships and local nonprofit mpowered will open the first of seven Denver Financial Empowerment Centers which will provide over 2,000 financial counseling sessions to Denver residents a year.

In January, Denver's Office of Strategic Partnerships (DOSP) was awarded a $1.9 million grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Fund to open seven Centers.

Approximately 21% of Denver's residents live below the federal poverty level. Financial counseling and financial literacy efforts, especially when delivered with additional stabilization services, are strong tools to move individuals and families out of poverty and towards self-sufficiency.
