Re: [emrat:2430] Re: Spring opener run 2013 edition

TK,
As a matter of facts we were in 4 States, we were at the Four Corners!

Yes I like to thank Steve also, I had a great time and so did Magnus, he really enjoyed to meet all of you.
We left Salida via 285 to Poncha Springs and Saguache to114 over to Gunnison, we ran into rain, snow and hail and almost freezing temperatures for a couple of hours and it was cold, did not know if it was freezing rain or not so we took our time, I had a hard time to convince Magnus that this was springtime in the Rockies. Luckily I had some small hotties hand warmers in my bags that we stuck in our gloves to warm up our hands. We made it to the Black Canyon and spend a couple of hours there and then on to Montrose and a night at the Country Lodge across from the Black Canyon Motel.
The rest of the week was excellent weather with sun that we enjoyed while we went to the Four Corners and Mesa Verde and Monument Valley and Moab and Arches National Park.
We went home over Rd 46 to 90 to 141 over to Gateway and a visit again to the car museum and back to Montrose where we stayed overnight again at the Country Lodge, next day we took 50 back and did Steve's route backwards thru Woodland Park and Deckers to Pine Junction and 285 home. Total 1525 miles.
Magnus really enjoyed Colorado and I'm sure he will be back in the near future.
See you all next Tuesday at the Rack house!
Tomas

Yes, thanks Steve.  The Spring Overnighter is the one I look forward to most.  After a long cold winter there is nothing like a long, cold ride to start the season!  Actually, Saturday was awesome but Andy and I ran into snow in Cripple Creek on the way home and had it periodically from Highway 24 over to 285 on Tarryall Reservoir Road.  40 miles of fun dirt, mud and sand (most of it at 40 mph leaving big rooster tails from time to time).  Made it home by 2:45pm then had a 90 minute deep tissue massage to work out the multiple kinks.

Great seeing such a big turnout of RATs...made me realize how much I have missed riding with all of you.  And Norm, sounds like you had your own version of adventure riding!

See y'all soon.

I thank Steve too, especially for the Red Stripe.  I should have taken you up on the offer to stay in Salida.  Hy 285 to Fairplay was windy but okay. However from Alma to Breckenridge it was snowing pretty hard.  Fortunately not sticking to anything except my face shield.  Then when I got near Frisco the sky opened up and it poured and it was a cold 36 degrees. I did make it home before that rain turned to snow but I was soaked to the skin as I figured it wasn't worth gearing up for 10 miles.  Probably not a good decision.   My house and driveway were snow covered on Monday morning and it was still snowing at the tunnel so I left the bike in Silverthorne and drove my pickup back.  It looks like it will be nice this weekend so I can spend some time cleaning the bike and hope it's decent next Tuesday to bring it back to Denver.  Gotta love Springtime in the Rockies.

Just so the folks that did not go don't miss out on the adventure stories, TK and his friend Andy got lost from the group (on purpose?) and ended up in Cripple Creek.  Always an adventure with TK.  Lunch at the Hungry Bear was as advertised!.

Sarah's new Street Triple was very cool.  Congrats on a good purchase.  Good to see Larry.  Tim took lots of pictures so we look forward to the posting.
