Subject: INC Transportation Committee: Next Thursday, Mar. 14th, 6pm @ 1201 Williams St.
The INC Transportation Committee is meeting every other month in 2013, on the second Thursday of the month, 6:00 p.m. at 1201 Williams Street, 19th Floor. Our next meeting is on Thursday, March 14th.
We hope your neighborhood can send a representative to the committee as we discuss a range of transportation, transit, and streets topics, build connections with the agencies and organizations involved, and ensure that neighborhood input is included in plans at all levels!
Thursday, March 14th, 6 p.m.
We have three topics with speakers confirmed for our meeting:
- Denver Car Share Program -- Robert Ferrin, Parking and Planning Program Administrator in Denver, will present new proposed policies for car share services in Denver (services such as eGo Car Share, Occasional Car, Zip Car, and car share services from Hertz and Enterprise). These proposed policies seek to make it easier for car share companies to operate in Denver, supporting an affordable mobility option without the high demands on parking space that individually-owned cars require. The policies may be of interest to all neighborhoods, and neighborhoods with Residential Parking Permits should understand how the car share policy would interact with RPP districts. The policies will go to the City Council Land Use, Transportation & Infrastructure Committee in April and a planned rule-making hearing in May.
- Colfax Corridor Mobility Study -- Terry Ruiter, Principal Planner in Public Works, will present on the context and goals of the active Colfax Corridor Connections study of mobility needs for transit and other multimodal improvements within the East Colfax travel corridor (I-25 to I-225 between 12th and 20th Avenues), to ensure capacity over the next 25 years of growth. The presentation will include an overview of how this type of planning process fits in the overall planning framework (Blueprint Denver, Strategic Transportation Plan, etc.), the influence the study will have, and what other corridors in the city might benefit from similar studies in the future -- as well as a brief status on the Colfax alternatives analysis as it has narrowed in on alignment and technology options so far. The study is expected to be completed in November 2013.
- RTD FasTracks West Corridor & Service Change Approach -- Brenda Tierney, Public Information Manager, will present an overview of the FasTracks West Corridor light rail line, which will have its grand opening on April 26th, highlighting the stations and destinations that will now be connected from Union Station to the Jefferson County Government Center. Robert Rynerson, Sr. Lead Service Planner, will provide a high-level review of the process and guiding principles by which RTD rearranges bus service and schedules throughout a wide area surrounding a corridor after a new rail corridor opens. While the specific examples will be drawn from the current West Corridor-related changes, the approach and public input opportunities should be of interest to neighborhoods throughout the city as we look forward to the East, Gold, North Metro, and I-225 lines opening in coming years.
2013 Meeting Schedule
The INC Transportation Committee's meeting schedule for the remainder of the year will be (all at 6pm, 1201 Williams St., 19th Floor):
