Re: [emrat:15225] Year End Talk

Steve,
Many thanks for taking this on.  Coordinating this wishes of the group against what is possible is not easy.  They very often don't align.  Some people want a place west, others want north, while still of others want easy in spite of those who want south.

It seems like Foothills has been a willing participant.  I would encourage you to nurture this relationship.

Just remember, you're doing your best

Cheers!

I like the location of Foothills, although I do find it sometimes tricky to make it down there on Saturday mornings. I always fondly remember tuesday nights with somewhere to sit and enjoy some snacks and a beverage being a great time. I bet it is hard now to find any time and place that would work for everyone though, so the ability to go for a ride after the meeting is pretty great.

Re: [emrat:15219] Update on Huc from Paula

Gosh, I was off my GMail for a couple of months so I'm just catching up on this.

Liz and I both send our best wishes to Paula and Huc and hopes for a speedy recovery!

Hope everyone has a great holiday this year as well!

FYI - We've been busy for the last two weeks. Our friend John helped the first weekend home with final touches to Brian's temporary living quarters, errands, chores, and made a Brian's welcome home & Paula's birthday dinner. It was great to have help.

Brian had 8 days of home physical and occupational therapy. The therapists gave suggestions for tools and modifications to help with daily activities. He now gets dressed in 30 minutes, a new record! His daily activities are getting easier as he works hard and we figure out what works.

After consulting several doctors, they recommended a 14-day heart monitor to rule out heart-related problems that could've caused the stroke. If nothing's found, they've recommended a standard set of drugs to reduce the risk of another stroke.

Thursday, he started outpatient therapy. They recommended 2X a week for 4 weeks and weekly after that. Two months of appointments are booked, and additional equipment for home therapy is being ordered. Brian has a lot of 'homework' to do between appointments.

We're grateful for everyone helping with meals (or gift cards). We're exhausted after all the appointments and other things, so we can't imagine having to cook healthy meals too. Thanks again! We're close to picking out a meal service to help in the long run. There are still a few days left on the meal train if you want to help. https://mealtrain.com/emknv1

Our insurance company assigned a social worker to help us find respite care and to ensure Paula doesn't get worn out or help if she's sick. We've also reached out to stroke support groups in town and plan to attend one soon. Paula tries to do at least one self-care activity daily, including meditations, journaling, and therapist visits. Brian says he naps. Thanks for continuing to check in on our well-being.

Due to the long journey, we may send fewer updates in the future. But we'll let you know if something major happens. We'll also reach out if we need help. We remain hopeful for Brian's continued hard work, great medical care, and your positive thoughts and prayers. We're grateful for everyone's help so far!

Love, Brian and Paula
