We're pleased to report it was a mild stroke, he even self diagnosed and drove himself to the hospital.

He's pretty well fully recovered but his doc suggested he lower his salt intake and give up kick starting.  He took the advice (well, I'm not sure about the salt part) and sold the Norton and bought a new Bonnie 120, silver and red (yeah, my colors).

Dan, I'm not advocating a stroke, but Achilles surgery would seem to carry the same observation Peter makes, "there are worse things in life than having a doctor's prescription to purchase a new motorcycle you were looking for an excuse to buy anyway."  PS Dan, New Year's is only 63 days away.  Time for a new Resolution!

Have a great November meeting, sounds like a super speaker.  See you in December if not before, the snow is flying in the Summit and we're headed home in a couple of weeks.    Norm

Hello RATs!  For the November meeting, we have a special presenter! The Adventure riding bug has bitten many of us! From tales of TK getting down the pass with bit of JB weld to a flying V-Strom!

This month, we have Michael Bielecki of Colorado Motorcycle Adventures to talk about Adventure riding. Colorado Motorcycle Adventures (www. is everything Adventure, from bike rentals (including the new Africa Twin) to guided tours! Whether you are curious about an Adventure bike and want to rent one, take a class on Adventure Riding, or one of the guided tours where can be treated like Ewan and Charlie with a support vehicle, don't miss it!

The normal time is 7:00 pm, but show up early to grab a bit and socialize. Parking is on street or in the garage accessible from 10th.  Hope to see a big turnout for this!

Re: [emrat:9116] Rule #1: Don't be stupid

I wear my spot around my neck on a Velcro tear away lanyard.  The lanyard grips well, but will release if it ever got caught on something, if ejected from the bike.  When it's not around my neck, it's attached to my clothing somewhere with a lanyard.

The Eat Sleep Ride app also has a component to it called CrashLight, that's supposed to automatically detect if your in a crash.  I haven't crashed tested it for them yet :)

Downside with CrashLight is of course it won't work in areas without cell service.

[emrat:9112] United Dirtbike School Classes for November & December

Brian Weberg recently took the class, and he has said that he will talk about it at un upcoming EMRAT meeting.

Not to pound the drum again, but . . .

If you have never ridden off-pavement, the class is a good investment in alleviating any anxiety that you might have when you unexpectedly encounter a construction zone where the pavement has been torn up or dirt/sand/gravel on a paved road, especially on a corner--as well as opening up a whole new world of adv-riding to explore the back country (about which we will hear more Tuesday night).

Michael's class is also a lot of fun but be forewarned that afterwards you may end up lusting for a dirt-bike or a dual-sport bike.  Just ask Brian.  J

Stay safe,

Dan
