[CPN] Re: Community Coordinating District No.1: Quick Updates & Event Reminders

Very importantly, the University of Colorado's College of Architecture & Planning are including the Candy Chang visit and presentation as part of their Spring Lecture Series. This opportunity for our City would not be possible without their participation and investment toward the betterment of Downtown Denver.

See you soon!!

Community Leaders & Stakeholders,

The Community Coordinating District No.1 is honored to be involved in so many wonderful efforts in and around Downtown Denver. We wanted to reach out and remind everyone of the upcoming events and programs we have planned for you at the moment.

PUBLIC MEETING: Our next Public Update Meeting is scheduled for April 11th. We'll be holding it at St. Francis Center at 2323 Curtis St. from 5:30-7PM. We'll look forward to presenting all the latest progress made at Sonny Lawson Park, Sonny Lawson Park and Eddie Maestes - Triangle Park! There's a lot to share here and we REALLY hope you all can make it.

CANDY CHANG VISIT: Many of you are aware of the Before I Die art mural that was first installed at Cousins Plaza (Sonny Lawson Park). In partnership with Arts & Venues Denver we moved the installation to Civic Center Park in January, directly in front of the McNichols Building. We're happy to announce that we've attracted Candy Chang to Denver and we will be hosting a presentation and Dialogue Series with our very own Eric Crotty on APRIL 4TH at RedLine from 5:30-7PM. Candy is a Senior Ted Fellow and Fast Company named 2012 Young Master of Design. MORE ON CANDY HERE.

TACTICAL URBANISM: tomorrow we'll host our 2nd monthly First Fridays Tactical Urbanism Happy Hour. This "impromptu" event held a cool community photo project last month, and tomorrow we'll be hanging solar lights and creating an urban/public art interventions using TONS of colorful umbrella. Just bring yourself and maybe a friend and meet us at Redline (24th & Arapahoe) at 4:30PM. SEE ATTACHED FOR DETAILS!

CHILDREN IN THE PLAZA EVENT: We've got a great children's event planned for early April and we look forward to sharing the date and details SOON.

Lastly, I've attached a One Page Overview of the Community Coordinating District No.1's Vision & Mission.

As you can see there's a lot going on. None of this would be possible without all of the many community individuals and organizations who are contributing their time, ideas and energy to Creative Thinking & Positive Action

MANY THANKS TO ALL

The Community Coordinating District Team

Mayor Hancock Kicks-off Good Government Committee to Shape Smart City

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock on Friday will kick-off the work of the Good Government Committee, created to assess how the city’s government operates, as dictated by charter and ordinance, and offer innovative ways to better meet the needs of a smart, 21st century city.

The Committee is an extension of the Mayor’s Peak Performance initiative to make city government more efficient, effective and customer-focused by improving processes and services.

“We are charged with evaluating and re-evaluating all aspects of city government to deliver a sustainable city structure that is built to support an unparalleled quality of life for today and for generations we will never meet,” Mayor Hancock said. “That means taking a hard look at how our city operates, finding innovative ways to lower costs and providing convenient customer service to our residents.”

Streamlining the city’s charter and ordinances was included among the recommendations presented to Mayor Hancock by the Structural Financial Task Force in January of last year. The Task Force recommended studying the value of a charter review and determining if it would result in a more efficient city.

The Committee will focus on three specific areas of city policy, ordinances and charter:

·         Organizational Structure

·         Public Safety

·         Personnel Management

Additional finance and elections topics will also be reviewed and recommendations will be proposed.

“The work of this group will be led primarily by those who know the city best: our current and former city employees. I want to thank these members’ dedication to delivering a modern city structure that is built to last,” Mayor Hancock said.

G2 Committee members:
