Thanks, Martin!  I will say tentative yes; it depends on whether my wife decides to hike that day; if she stays closer to home then I'll be able to go play but if she's gonna be out of the house at 4AM and gone all day I'll need to watch the dogs ... after Lake City and Montrose, it's her turn, and she's getting thoroughly rained out this weekend.

Jim, I'd b willing to push the meet time to 8:00 and Kickstands Up at 8:30 if that would  work better for you.  You could jump off at WP on the way home and head straight back to the Springs.

I did.  I got a 2017 with 12500 miles.  Finally got it licensed this week.  This COVID stuff makes life difficult to say the least.  DMV requires an appointm but the website only lists the next 3 business days and rotates at midnight.  I got on live at 12:06 AM and there were only 3 spots left for that new third day.  Gotta luv government.

[emrat:12400] Montrose

Thanks Manny and everyone who worked to pull off such a fun weekend in Montrose.  I really enjoyed the food the fun and the great riding.  Always fun to chat with riders who know their stuff and see what works for them first hand.  I always learn something new.

Great 3 days!

Vince

Re: [emrat:12399] First Sunday ride 8/2/20?

Thanks for the input Vince.  I do know that Highway 24 has been getting worse and worse, especially on Sunday afternoons.

So how about a slightly modified plan:  I-70 all the way to Glenwood (yes, I know I-70 isn't much fun but it's a straight shot to Glenwood.)  Then 82 through Aspen over Independence Pass Eastbound, then down through Buena Vista and over to Hartsel, where we can go down CO 9 to Guffey and then take County Road 102, Four Mile Road and Twin Rocks Road to Divide.

Should bypass the worst of the Highway 24 traffic.  Google says it's 346 miles by that route from Morrison to Woodland Park so 40 miles less than the Figure 8 route.

Any takers?

Martin,

Just to let you know I came across 24 yesterday (Sunday) coming back from Montrose.  It took me close to 90 minutes to go the 20 or so miles from Lake George to 67 in Woodland Park.  I probably hit Lake George around 2:15.  1st and 2nd gear only bumper to bumper.  I didn't feel comfortable doing the shoulder like you can going up to the tunnel out of Silverthorne.  Lots of rain may have played a part in the traffic back-up I don't know.  67 was light traffic and the dirt section of Pine Creek is in excellent shape though a little slippery when wet.

Unless someone else wants to lead one, I'd be happy to lead the first Sunday ride on Sunday Aug 2.

Since it's the middle of Summer and I want to take advantage of the long day and the nice weather and plan a nice, long ride.

Tentative route would be a "figure 8."  I-70 West to Copper Mountain, then CO 91 over Fremont Pass to Leadville, then US 24 out of Leadville to CO 82, then over Independence Pass, through Aspen and up to Carbondale where I'd like to eat lunch (there's a nice diner there - I assume it's open with the usual rules.)  From there, CO82 to Glenwood Springs, then East through Glenwood Canyon and I-70 to Minturn, then East on 24 over Tennessee Pass, through Leadville again and this time continuing on US 24 all the way to Buena Vista, then turning East and staying on 24 all the way to Woodland Park.  From Woodland Park we could each make our way home (I would likely take 67 to Deckers and then all the way to Sedalia via Pine Creek Road..  This route does have 3 miles of dirt so if you're not comfortable on dirt you may prefer to either take I-25 from CO Springs or continue up CO 126 to Pine Junction and 285.

Let's meet at the Phillips in Morrison at 7:00 and go kickstands up by 7:30.  Yes, I know that's early but this is an 8+ hour ride (Google says 7:46 but that doesn't count lunch.) Distance from Morrison to Woodland Park is 388 miles so if you live in the Denver area add about 70+ miles to that to get home.

So who's with me?

Re: [emrat:12398] Great Rally

Hello all!

I was sorry to see the lot of you only Friday and Saturday evenings, but I look forward to seeing you more, even if only through zoom! Sean and I missed riding with y'all, and were sorry to have not had an experience like Jim described so eloquently! Do let us know when that travelog book of yours is coming out!! I must admit I do not regret beating the heat on Sunday and literally taking a nap on the top of Grand Mesa after a gloriously locally catered repast (Wagon Wheel in Mesa).
Sorry to have missed time with Iron Butt and Annette - I wish I could predict when I will be that way again!

Fist bumps across the miles,
Sara and Sean

Thanks to Manny and Steve for getting this setup during the confusion that seems to reign this year.

After riding nearly nothing in 2019, I did 1169.2 miles between Friday and Monday.
Bullet Bob led Jake and I down on Friday over Independence pass.
Saturday was E-Steve, Jim B, Adam and I going to Telluride, Delorise, Durango and up the Million Dollar Highway. I found an interesting route through the back alleys of Durango to get us to lunch. A coffee table book of the route will be available soon from Van Delay publishing.
Iron Butt Steve, aka local Steve, went with Jim B., Jake and I Sunday to Lake City via Blue Mesa (the dirt road is in good condition and the Trophy handled it with complete aplomb).
Today, Monday, I followed Jim B over Cottonwood Pass (mostly clean roads, a bit of gravel in some corners) to Buena Vista where we parted ways.

I look forward to next year. Manny, if you need assistance, just ask!

All credit for the event goes to Manny, I just picked up the pizzas. That said, thanks for another great weekend Manny and everyone who was able to attend. I missed many of our other friends but considering the circumstances it's completely understandable. I look forward to a better 2021.

I'd be with you except for the start time ... that's really difficult to get to from the Springs.  :(

Still, sounds great, hope you enjoy it ... I may try to schedule an alternate.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to pass this along to everyone who is headed to Montrose this weekend. You will definitely be required to have a mask for anything that requires you to go inside any business or public space starting today. I recommend bringing one with you.

See you soon!

BB Northern Route on Friday

Jim and Jake,

I know the traffic on I-70 was bad 4th of July weekend, but I am willing to chance it this weekend, so will plan a northern route over Independence and McClure Passes on Friday morning.  The meeting place I proposed is the Launch Espresso coffee shop at 18455 W Colfax ( just south of Avalanche Harley), which is right at I-70, so easy access to get rolling. They have outdoor seating for a coffee before rolling.  It's also right next to a gas station, so easy to top up.  Will plan to roll at about 8:30 and scoot up the frontage road system to avoid most traffic silliness (yes, fingers crossed!).  Will stop for lunch in Carbondale (confirm suitable place tomorrow), then south to McClure and points west.

I'll be FJ-ing it, so luxury pace planned, might even be two up. Let me know whose interested and if any questions.

I live in Summit County and we haven't gotten any rain in 2 weeks until last night after 6:00 PM.  Was beautiful all day today.

It is on the right after you make the right turn at the light at 133 off 82 and there is gas right across the street too or gas a short distance west if you don't want the left there..

I've not been there this year but their place leads to easy social distance seating including some outdoor seating.  Food and service are very good and quick.

I'm going the southern route but will see you in Montrose.  Safe travels.

Good for you Sara. I too prefer my cloth mask, but I'm also a cheapskate. Wash and wear all the way. Also my daughter made it for me. 😊

Hi everyone,

I wanted to pass this along to everyone who is headed to Montrose this weekend. You will definitely be required to have a mask for anything that requires you to go inside any business or public space starting today. I recommend bringing one with you.

See you soon!
