I'm unfamiliar with the motor itself but it's not uncommon for engines used across different platforms to have lugs or tapped holes on the block that are not used on every model. For example a fairing stay used on a Trophy being unused on an Explorer. Or vice versa. You get the idea. Maybe it's not used on your bike?
