Re: [emrat:5844] RE: Sturgis 75th Rally 2015

You guys are killing me.  As I have told Dan, my organization has blindly scheduled its annual convention for August 2-6 in Seattle.  Needless to say, that rules out my attendance at the 75th with all of you.  Color me bummed.

My wife Mary and I have done a Vienna to Budapest bicycle tour and it's a great experience.  Our tour was managed by a group called Rad & Reisen and they did a terrific job.  We were part of group that started together on the first day but we quickly found our own space and largely rode alone, following the maps provided that guided us to our hotel in each town along the route. It's a wonderful way to visit Europe and to meet people and see places outside the general tourist traps.  Here's the Rad & Reisen webpage for that trip.  http://www.radreisen.at/en/cycling-tours/austria/danube-detail-view/news/danube-cycle-path-3-country-tour.html

Yes, it doesn't hurt to reserve early!  But you should wear your 50th Rally t-shirt!  That will give you great stature.

I hope all is well with you.  Madie and I spent last week in VT on a bicycle tour with Vermont Bicycle Tours.  We had autumn colors and summer weather, and it was a fantastic trip.  I may get more serious about bicycle riding now as we had a lot of fun and learn something about bicycle touring.  VBT is a great company and it runs walking and bicycling tours all over the country.  Madie now wants to do the Vienna to Prague bicycle trip!

Let me forward a recent email and very cool photo from Nelson.

Cheers/Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the copy on the email.  I've been wondering if we should try to lock in Creekside early.  Also, I've been meaning to shoot Nelson an email to say hi and will do it now.  My first year was 1990 (50th).  I still have a shirt (you don't want to see me in it) and a hat.  I'll go ahead and get on and make a reservation and throw in for Thursday.  Don't know how many days yet.  It should be amazing.

Vince

Chris, I will ride up on Thursday, July 30th.  Anyone who wants to go that day is welcome to ride along with me.

Others may ride up on Friday.  I'm not sure how long I will stay yet.  I usually return on Sunday, but this time I may stay a couple of days longer because it is the 75th Rally.

The easiest thing to do is just register yourself for the days that you will be there.  There are no campsites, per se.  It's really just a nice big pasture under the big cottonwood trees near a creek.  Thus, the name, Creekside.  But no cow patties!  Check it out on Google Earth.  We have a favorite area and we just pitch our tents to stake out our turf.  The biggest decision at Creekside is where to pitch your tent if Jim "Chainsaw" Maharis is with the group.

Registration went live about a week ago : http://www.creeksidesturgis.com/reserve-now.html

I'm itching to get this locked in, but wasn't sure of the specific "pre-sturgis" dates - event runs Aug 3 - 9, so would our ride be from the 31st (Fri) - the 3rd (Mon)?. Also didn't know whether you guys normally get a single campsite registration, or each person gets their own, something else?

I'll await advice from those who have done this in the past and then want to move fast to get the reservation in.

Doc, Creekside's message back in August to our Kiwi friend, Nelson Marshall, was that they should be ready at the end of September to take reservations.  But I've not checked yet, although it's on my to-do list . . .

Anybody made a res for Sturgis at Creekside yet? Just wondered if they are taking res' yet, and if I should early.
