Please join the University of Denver Sturm College of Law as we welcome Ms. Rosa María Ortiz, IACHR Commissioner and Special Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child, for a lecture and public hearing on juvenile justice in Colorado and the Americas.

In her talk, Ms. Ortiz will discuss the report issued by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the standards that it puts forth, and how those standards are either applied or not applied in the United States and the Americas. A Q& A session and invitation for public remarks will follow.

Ms. Ortiz is a citizen and human rights activist from Paraguay who has held the role of IACHR Commissioner since June of 2011. She is an expert on the international rights of the child and has won awards and accolades for her work on behalf of women, children, and political prisoners in her home country of Paraguay.

On October 21, the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will be at DU Law School to give a presentation and hold a public hearing (5-6:30pm, Room 165). She is visiting Colorado to learn more about changes in juvenile justice in Colorado law and their implementation and she is interested in hearing from people in the community. Her talk will be on Juvenile Justice in the Americas.
