Re: [emrat:8661] One Wild and Wooly Road

US 12 is a nice road either way from Lewiston. Lucky you! I was fortunate enough to ride WA 410 last year too, and loved it even in the light drizzle.

Well, I definitely think we rode through the Palouse area on US 12 going west from Lewiston but I'm not sure where the Palouse is said to end as you go further west towards the Columbia River.  What we saw on US 12 matches the photos that are posted of the Palouse.  Magical country, for sure.

The reason that we went that far north was that I wanted to take the group over Lolo Pass on US 12 and then down alongside the Lochsa River, which seemed to go on forever.  From Yakima, we rode over Chinook Pass on the north side of Mt. Rainer via WA 410 and then down into the Seattle area.

That explains it, you didn't go through Paloose after all. I was wondering why you went that far north. Eastern WA and OR are great places to ride, at least in areas. I'm glad that you had a great trip. I wish I could have joined in.

Let me try again.  I see the letter "y" on the end of the link that I first sent.

We took US 12 west from Lewiston and, where it makes a sharp left turn to go down to Walla Walla, we went off on WA 261 through Starbuck.  It dead-ends at WA 260, which we took west to WA 17 and then up to Othello.  From Othello, we took WA 24 (much of which is boring) to Yakima.

Hey Dan, the link is broken. Which road(s) did you take from Paloose?

On our recent Denver-Vashon Island Ride, we blundered onto this road.  I thought the ride from Lewiston ID to Yakima WA would be pretty boring after we left the scenic Palouse area of eastern Washington.  This road quickly relieved me of that mistaken idea:

By the way, this is a great motorcycle web site for roads in OR, WA and ID.
