Re: [emrat:8680] Re: Camping trip this weekend June 11 & 12

A big thanks to Steve and Darren for setting this up, and to everyone who was there to make it a great weekend get away!

Paula and I took the longish way home as we detoured through Estes.

We got a nice warning from a rider west bound on 14 of cops as we headed east toward Stove Prairie Road. Both a MC cop and cage handing out performance vouchers - at least the cycle cop waved back as we rode by :)

Stove Prairie Rd to MasonVille was again a terrific route. Met Bob the owner of the Masonville store - neat guy. I didn't realize he owned basically all the land at that cross road and beyond! Sadly that will prove to be an expensive decision to stop and chat. He pointed out they have several specialty Derby Hats and Paula has decided to return on a separate shopping spree after seeing several three figure ones in the store she just has to have for "Ladies With Hatitude" DCPA charity event :O That'll teach me to sit on a shaded bench next to a retail store!

After hitting Masonville we back tracked on 34 to Estes Park on which traffic west bound was steady but at least moving at the bloody speed limit! We then took the high road home via Nederland and Golden Gate Canyon. That was a nice break from the heat and with only light cloud and surprisingly light traffic it was a great way to wrap up the day. We were thankful for the pickup truck that slowed things down for a bit outside of Nederland as there's no doubt we'd have gotten red flagged (does anyone go 45 on the peak to peak - really?!). And of course they have a tendency to hang out on Golden Gate in the residential area just west of Kriley Pond/Entry to Baseline Mountain Road and again they didn't surprise anyone being parked there! Only one Park Ranger was between the ponds and the Visitor Center, and he kindly turned off at the VC :) After that it was clear sailing through the canyon home.

Again thanks for everyone for making it a terrific weekend!

Cheers
Huc

ps: good thing Darren posted pics - else I'd have never believed the phone survived - never mind surviving unscathed! Looks like the pics should be sent to the case maker as an endorsement and maybe they'll toss in a free replacement!
