[emrat:9573] Sunday Ride and April Meeting

Hello everyone!  Just a couple of things:

1. Sunday would be the start of the normal first Sunday rides, but the weather which has been kind, is turning.  So the first Sunday ride is cancelled.

2. Tuesday April 4th is the April EMRAT meeting!  Join us at the Interstate Kitchen and Bar at 10th and Santa Fe.  Meeting starts at 7:00 pm, but show up early to grab a bite and socialize with your fellow EMRATs!  ...and here's the obligatory "please watch your step as you enter the meeting room".

Hope everyone has a great weekend.   Cheers!

Manuel

[emrat:9572] Colordo Transportation Funding Bill

One provision of the bill that should interest those of us who own (multiple) motorcycles:

Road safety surcharge. For 2018 through 2037, the bill reduces the road safety surcharge, an annual vehicle registration fee, as follows:

·         the fee for motorcycles and vehicles weighing up to 2,000 lbs is reduced from $16 to $6;

For more than you will ever want to know about this bill, which we may vote on in November, read:

http://cochamber.com/2017/03/31/house-sends-transportation-funding-bill-senate/#house-sends-transportation-funding-bill-to-senate

And, no, Manuel, I will not talk about this bill Tuesday night . . .

Dan

Hello fellow RATs,

As previously promised (threatened?), I am announcing the plans for the annual spring overnighter, and this year it will be Saturday, May 20 in Buena Vista. The downtown area is pretty nice, and there are a few different eating and drinking establishments, including a newer brew pub about a block south of Main St. Additionally, there is a public park right on Main and US 24 which is surrounded by the three motels listed below which we use if we want.

The exact route will be determined by the weather forecast. If the weather is good, we will wander around the mountains a bit before we hit BV so that we can enjoy the ride. If it's not so nice, we'll stay off the higher elevations, including skipping the higher passes.

The hotels I contacted weren't open to blocking off rooms because there is a high school graduation that weekend. I wasn't able to procure a special rate either, so we will be doing things a bit differently than in the past. These 3 motels are within a block of each other in downtown BV and you can decide which one suits you the best.

The options are:

Pinion Court Cabins, 719-395-2433

Topaz Lodge, 719-395-2427

Lakeside Motel, 719-395-2995. (They have a strict no smoking policy so any smokers should not book there.)

If none of these choices meet your minimum requirements, there are a couple of other places a little farther away, like a Super 8 or Best Western. None of them is very far from downtown.

Anyway, let's all hope that the weather cooperates (as always) so we can start another great riding season in Colorado together. See you all soon!

Hello everyone!

Most of you know that Erica and I have been working (for what seems an eternity) on opening our own brewery.  We've found that this industry is very supportive of each other and have had the good fortune to run across several that are always willing to help; whether it's questions that we have, advice, letting us brew with them, helping us with contacts...

One of those breweries is in a little friendly competition tomorrow at the Pint Room in Littleton (2620 W Belleview Ave).  Many of you remember this used to be the Celtic Tavern where we several of our meetings prior to finding the Interstate.

The competition (a March Madness bracket style elimination):
Our friends, mentors, and all-around good people at Chain Reaction are going up against Resolute (who has been crushing their previous competition).  Each brewery has 1 keg of one beer on tap.  The the first brewery to sell out their keg is declared the winner.

Time:
Tomorrow (Wednesday 3/21/17) at the Pint Room.  Be there before 6:00pm (I'll be there around 5:30).  At 6:00 pm sharp, competition starts and orders for beer from the 2 competitors start being poured.  The competition has been lasting around 20 minutes, so you may only get one glass of the competing beers.

I would consider it a personal favor if you are able to show up before 6:00 and order a Chain Reaction beer when the competition starts.  If you want another after the competition, the Pint Room has a tremendous selection of other beers and the food is good too (a huge improvement over the Celtic Tavern that previously occupied the space.

Help Erica and I help the good guys at Chain Reaction crush their competition!  This is the "final four" so if they win this, they move on for the championship in "Kill the Keg"!

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Manuel

Ah yes; the proper pint.  I have definite opinions on glassware. Perhaps you can let me know your thought over an improper pint of Chain Reaction beer at the "Pint" room tomorrow.

Hi all,

We have been given the following dates in April and May, and will be using the Jewell range (in SE Aurora) for classes:

Saturday, April 1at 10:00 a.m.

Saturday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, May 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Saturday, May 13 at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m.

We have another range, also certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, located approximately 15 miles north of Strasburg, CO. The closest intersection is 112th and Strasburg Rd. and then there are 5 miles of dirt to get to the range. The dates we will have class at this range are:

Sunday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m.

Saturday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m.

Saturday, May 6 at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m.

Saturday, May 20 at 9:30 a.m.

This is on a first-to-email us, first-served basis. We have a large waiting list so please, if you see a date that will work for you, let us know as soon as possible.

We are hoping to get February dates in a couple weeks and will let you know when we do.

If you are no longer interested in being on the waiting list, please let us know.

Thanks for your interest in our school.

Last call for the Chuck Ferrari Ride.  Meeting point is the Sedalia Grille parking lot (or whatever they're calling it now - maybe Buckskins saloon?) at the corner of US 85 (Santa Fe Dr) and CO 67 in Sedalia.  I should be there no later than about 9:00 AM and would like to go kickstands up no later than 9:30.  We will end up in Palmer Lake between 12:30 and 1:30.

I'm not going to take a roll call so if you want to ride but are running late, shoot me a text at 303-482-7848.

See you tomorrow!

Have a safe and fun ride everyone!  Don't forget the martini toast when you are safely home (Chuck used to be met on the tarmac after bombing runs in Vietnam by ground crew with a pitcher of them).

For those that don't know his story, here are a couple of photos from his Air Force Academy obituary.  Not sure you will be able to read it entirely but it was the best shot I could get:
