Re: [emrat:12747] Chuck Ferrari Ride

TK; I remember well the 'upside down and on fire at 30,000 feet' story...I'll have a wee dram for Chuck after the ride.

Martin,

Thank you for continuing to remember Chuck with this annual ride.  I shared your email with Linda (Chuck's wife) and she was incredibly touched that this ride is a way to raise money for one of his favorite charities.  Thank you to all who joined the ride and contributed so generously to the Humane Society.  Hopefully, there were a few stories shared about Chuck during the ride.  I know the EMRATs loved it when he first joined the group and when asked why he didn't wear much protective gear stated "flying missions in Vietnam at the speed of sound while being shot at by the Vietcong made me a little less worried about protective gear".   Many of you may recall that ultimately he did end up wearing more protection thanks to influence from Dan Pilcher and others.
Sorry I missed the ride this year - These days I am basically a "sports taxi" for my kids (Chuck's grandchildren) running them all over the metro area for hockey, lacrosse and volleyball!

Ride safely everyone!

First off, I want to apologize for not keeping the group together, it's always difficult with a group this large, in hindsight what we should have done was split into two smaller groups before departing Morrison. I've also been told that my riding today was a bit, ahem, "spirited" and for that I'd blame having a new-to-me sportbike, the Honda 919.   I know some of you were way back in the pack and maybe wondering where I was so again, I apologize and will try to do better next time.

We raised a total of $400 for the Humane Society of the South Platte and I know they will be very appreciative of the donation.  I will probably not be able to get it to them until next week but I will let you all know when I do.

It was a gorgeous day for a ride and hope everyone had a great time!

Martin - sorry I could not join you guys...looks like you had a good turnout. I had to get my second shot yesterday, and I didn't want to take a chance of any side effects while riding.

If you are taking PayPal, let me know and I'd be happy to make a donation.

Steve,

Maybe it's supposed to be like that but is it possible that the part attached to the shift shaft is off by about 90 degrees? I'm trying to imagine how that can rotate the shaft from that position. Of course I am a long way away and can't be there to help you, you lucky dog.

The shifter mechanism on that 1050 failed at about 300 miles and was fixed on warranty by "Foothills". I cleaned & lubricated it,

[emrat:12734] Chuck Ferrari Ride 4/25/21

Hi RATS!  Just wanted to let you all know that the 8th annual Chuck Ferrari Ride is a GO for this Sunday, 4/25.  Weather looks beautiful so it will be a great ride.  I will be taking donations for the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley (note that this is a change from previous years) in Chuck's name.

Let's meet at the Phillips station in Morrison, just South of Bandimere Speedway at 9:00 AM and let's go kickstands up at 9:30.  I'm planning on taking us up to Jefferson and then down Tarryall Road to Woodland Park.  We can find something to eat there and then ride back via whatever route you wish.

Best way to get in touch with me is Facebook or email.

Portable Berkey Water Filter

Go Berkey

The over-populated feral burros in the area had dug holes, so the water would seep in. Or suppose you journey to a 3rd-world country, where water quality is suspect at finest. But regularly, the one drinking water supply available may be muddy, dirty and polluted - water from ponds, streams, and the like. Water is crucial to survival, be it within the desert or during a flood comparable to occurred after Katrina, or final week in my hometown of Ames, Iowa. However in addition they relieved themselves within the water while they drank. If that's your survival state of affairs, then your choices are easy: Drink or die. The desert bighorn sheep wouldn't drink that filthy slop, and I used to be glad we didn't must re-provide. The spring within the Demise Valley canyon was the one source of water for most likely miles around, and my hiking companion and i had detoured to see it. However the spring (a seep actually) appeared and smelled like a hog wallow, with the muddy, filthy water polluted nearly past perception.

For somebody with weaker palms, the system may very well be primed by stepping very carefully on the center of the bottle till water got here out the straw. This, in flip, reduces the amount of suction wanted to drink from the straw. The bottle must first be "primed" earlier than utilizing, which amounts to squeezing the bottle till water comes out the highest. The Berkey is easy for me to use. When the bottle was full, it was potential to squeeze filtered water out of the straw. The bottle is gentle and versatile. The excellent news is: You might filter water for younger kids or previous individuals who couldn't muster sufficient suction power to operate other filter bottles. The bottle is well secured, due to the ring constructed into the top, to just about anything. You might fill different bottles with filtered water in this manner, however it would be a protracted, laborious process. This permits the user to squeeze and produce more inner pressure. It could possibly be carried by the highest, or have a carabineer or piece of cord threaded via it. I had no hassle performing this operation.

Re: [emrat:12726] My brother Don

Sorry to hear of your loss Martin.  I lost my brother to cancer in 2020 after a long fight.  He was 68.  The last 6 months of his life were no fun so I take solace in his passing as difficult as it was.

I too missed the ride but I'm sure he appreciated the thought and effort.  Our prayers and thoughts are with you.  God Bless!

I lost my brother when he passed away at 35 years young so I can relate to the grief. While I was not part of that parade last year, just hearing how much joy it brought your brother made me smile.  The RATs are a kind group so please reach out if you need any support in this time of sadness.  And always remember the good times you and he shared together.  Condolences.
