Re: [emrat:2501] Five Pass Ride - June 30th!

First the good news,FJ12 now has a 17"/170 wide rear wheel. The bad news, bearing races in the front wheel are totally shot, currently sitting at Super Tune awaiting parts!!Attempts at performing block long wheelies did not produce desired results!

Have a great time,be safe and if he is going to attend,do NOT follow TK

Dear Fellow Rats,

Sorry I was out of town for this month's monthly meeting, but wanted to give you some heads up that the 5 Pass Ride is still planned to be Sunday June 30th departing from the Blue Cow in Morrison at 8:30.  As it appears that the Cow doesn't open 'till 8, those that want a full breakfast should show about 7:30 or earlier at the Country Kitchen next door, otherwise the Cow for a quick coffee and we roll at 8:30.

I'll advise route details prior to departure including the targeted lunch spot.  Should promise to be a great day as we have had many good crews and decent weather.  Expect a 300+ mile day so home in the 5 pm range.

See some of you Thursday night I am sure.

The coming decade will offer one of the greatest aggregations of challenges to poor and working families in modern history. Gaps have widened in income, achievement, life-long earnings, primary and secondary education, and family net worth and assets. The situation is made more grim in Colorado by continued cuts to services that provide the safety net for low-income and working families.

In this climate, the goal of building a powerful civic voice for disenfranchised constituencies and the nonprofits that support them takes on urgent importance. Nonprofit direct service providers can have a crucial voice in public policy campaigns, in particular on anti-poverty and state budget reform issues.

This interactive session will engage participants in a discussion of:

  • Nonprofit Advocacy – What is advocacy and why does it matter to human service providers?
  • Successful Components of Advocacy - Overview of the full cycle of client-centered advocacy.
  • Opportunities & Resources – How to get started in 2013/2014 and connections to resources, partners and support.
Presenter: Rebecca Gorrell

Ms. Gorrell is the Program Director at the Colorado Participation Project (CPP), which provides guidance, training and support to human service nonprofits in their nonpartisan advocacy and civic engagement efforts. She brings 12 years of nonprofit management, development, and volunteer experience at organizations throughout Colorado, including Regis University and Seniors’ Resource Center. Rebecca’s areas of expertise include special events, program management, volunteer coordination, nonprofit marketing and business development. Rebecca has been involved in diverse campaign and electoral efforts in Denver as a poll worker, poll watcher, and canvasser.

The mission of the Colorado Participation Project (CPP) is to guide, train, and support human service nonprofits in their nonpartisan advocacy and civic engagement efforts. Since its founding, CPP has grown into a network of 34 service providers statewide who together serve nearly one million low-income Coloradoans. CPP regularly convenes and connects direct service provider organizations to coordinate civic participation and grassroots advocacy efforts, and has gained a national reputation as a trusted and leading resource for nonpartisan civic engagement and advocacy information.

[The Network] Sites Needed: EITC Periodic Payment Simulation Project

There is an exciting initiative at the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) called Work Support Strategies (WSS). This grant-funded initiative's purpose is to design, test, and implement more effective, streamlined, and integrated approaches to delivering key supports for low-income working families.

One of the projects WSS is conducting is a study to better understand the possible effects of having the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) paid to families on a periodic basis throughout the year. Presently, this credit is paid once a year, at tax time. CDHS is working with community-based, public-facing organizations throughout Colorado to conduct a simulation of EITC periodic payments to their clients. CDHS is staffing these exercises and is currently looking to gain more sites to improve the outcomes of this project. Please contact Christi Casiano at christi.casiano@state.co.us or (303) 866-4990 for more information.

EMRATS:  Manuel and I are planning to meet at World Of Beer this Fri, 6/28, at about 6:30.  It offers over 200 brands, both draft and bottled.  It does not serve food, but allows you to bring food in.  It is located just North of the Galleria building on S. Colorado Blvd/S. Cherry Creek Dr.  (google to get a map). Hope to see you (and long, lost TK) there!

Dan;  I met my younger brother last Thursday at the Lowry Beer Garden.  Great place for an EMRAT pub crawl!  Let's add it to the list.  You can't miss it...it has a friggin' B-52 outside!

[Altitude Multisport Club] Boulder Ironman Training

Hey Everyone,
With the signups for Ironman Boulder coming next month, I wanted to check, first, what the interest is from folks in signing up. I know that more than a few of you are thinking to yourselves "Can I really do this? Is it possible if I've only done a sprint? Etc." Feel free to contact me if you want to talk about it – the answer is sometimes not as obvious as you might think.

If you are planning on signing up, I've come up with a few different discounted opportunities if you are looking for coaching:

Option #1: Small Group Training
- Group will receive a training plan that is designed to peak at Ironman Boulder on August 3rd, 2014
Group plan cannot be modified for individuals. If you would like an individual plan and the attention that comes with 1:1 coaching, please see below
- Training Plan will begin January 1, 2014
- 2 Group rides/run in Boulder on the course in May/June/July
- Free Basic Training Peaks account
- Discounted annual pass for Grant Ranch for open-water swimming
- Cost is $125 per person, per month with a commitment for 7-months. If we have more than 5 in the group, cost is only $100 per person (a savings of $175!!) and will include a FREE Annual Pass to Grant Ranch (an additional savings of $135!!)

Option #2: Individual Training
- Personalized Training Plan geared towards your goals, abilities and lifestyle. Workouts include, time/distance, intensity/pacing and suggested terrain.
- Training Plan will adjust based on your adaptation to training and/or other life events
- Detailed Initial Consultation to evaluate past performance
- 2 Group rides/run in Boulder on the course in May/June/July
- Pre-race Preparation meeting (meet 1-2 weeks prior to the race to go over course details and race strategy)

Immigrant integration is a dynamic, two-way process in which newcomers and the receiving society work together to build secure, vibrant, and cohesive communities. As an intentional effort, integration engages and transforms all community members, reaping shared benefits and creating a new whole that is greater than the sum of its parts (Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees).

Re: [emrat:2494] Sturgis Plans

Dan; an alternate route would be to go North on the "Fossil Freeway" that runs out of Mitchell and thru Chadron.  Along the way, you could stop at the Agate Fossil Beds NM, and see some real, petrified Hogs instead of the pig-iron types, of which you will see plenty of in Sturgis!

For anybody staying thru Tuesday of Sturgis week, the flattrack races are a must!  Wayne E.

I've decided to depart for Sturgis on Thursday, Aug. 1st, with my friend, Brian Weberg.  We both have family/work reasons for returning to Denver on Sunday, Aug. 4th, so we will go up one day before the main EMRAT group.

We will go out I-76 to Fort Morgan and then north on Colorado/Nebraska 71 through Kimball to Scottsbluff NE for lunch.  We'll continue up NE 71 to Hot Springs SD, at the south end of the Black Hills, and continue on up US 385.  This route is about 50 miles longer than the traditional Cheyenne/Torrington/Lusk/Newcastle/Lead/Deadwood route to Sturgis.

I call this the "Dances with Wolves" route, which I took in 2006, my second year of riding to Sturgis, because of the rolling, grassy hills that stretch to the horizon, the pronghorn antelopes, and solitude.  I recall seeing only one motorcyclist before I reached the Black Hills.  Granted, some of you would think this ride "boring," but, then again, I grew up in north-central Kansas, so I have a deep affection for the High Plains.  J

Norm, if you can let me know where you camped last year at the Creekside Campground, we'll set up camp there and then see you and the others late Thursday afternoon when you arrive.  Tim, is there a small EMRAT banner that we can take to fly over our camp?

So, if anyone is interested in joining us, please let me know.

Stay safe . .

Dan

Re: [emrat:2493] EMRAT Pub meet?

Great minds think alike, right?  I had been thinking about seeing how many would like to rendezvous tonight at the Lowry Beer Garden, which is between the two hangars.

But I never got around to sending out an email in time . . . there is plenty of parking there.  Perhaps some other Friday night?

Stay safe,

Dan
