Re: RE: [emrat:2699] RE: Bullet Bob's Almost Lost Ride!

Thanks Bob. I think Jay here's that prize. I was talking to him and he got his 1200 up that same hill. Now I know these k60s are serious tires!

Thanks to all who attended today.  Good camraderie and persistence, as we managed to deal with the adversity that is the hallmark of dualsporting!  A few notes for those that may want to replicate some parts of the ride in the future:

1.  Upper Bear Creek to Whittier Gulch - paved and dirt road near the top, which puts you up on Squaw Pass.  All good.

2.  Little Bear Creek Road to Soda Creek to Idaho Springs - all dirt county road, good shape, serious switchbacks downhill.  All good.

3.  Virginia Canyon (Oh My God) Road to Central City - dirt boulevard, with great views and some blind corners.  All good.

4.  Upper Apex Valley Road to Apex Valley Road - for a while, good like the others, but do not pass Elk Park Road turn!!  If you do it starts climbing, then you get to the fairly gnarly descent to Mitch's place.  Not good!  Manny gets the prize for riding the biggest bike back up!  Sorry for the carnage guys.

5.  Elk Park Road (Mammoth Gulch Road on some maps!) which gets to Mammoth Gulch eventually - four of us took that up to Tolland Road and it was reasonable.  Marked as Mammoth Gulch on the north end.  Due to time consumed on the "side trip" and running low on gas, we shortened the trip.  Grabbed gas and grub in Nederland.  Then Manny and I took...

6.  Mongolia road - Just south of the Sunshine Cafe, dirt road for most of the way to Boulder, then paved for the very tight switchbacks dropping down to Boulder Creek.  A nice surprise after being here all these years.  All good.

So still have a future ride going up Rollins Pass road and Switzerland Trail.  Heck, I might even pre ride these to be sure, but where would the adventure be in that!

Till the next meeting!

Yo RATs,

The vote was cast and Sunday, August 11th it will be.  Plan is to depart the Blue Cow in Morrison at a leisurely 8:45 giving enough time to squeeze in breakfast for those so inclined (that would be me!).  Our route will take us thru Evergreen, Idaho Springs, Blackhawk, up to Rollins Pass , Gold Hill and Boulder .  Some pavement, mostly dirt roads and a few rocks here and there, but nothing gnarly, so GS 12s and Tiger 800s are fine.  Looks to be about 100 mi and we can regas in Rollinsville if anyone has a tiny tank.  Bring water/snacks as we'll be a bit off the beaten most of the time.  Let me know if you plan to attend so we are looking for you on Sunday and look forward to a great ride!

Yo fellow DualSporters!

Yes I have been remiss in putting together a solid Dual Sport ride, but I am afraid I had to do some annoying maintenance on the GS before I could participate myself.  So now that that is done, I have backed off on the idea of an overnighter but have been scanning the maps for a worthy local day ride.  Target is either Sat Aug 10 or Sun Aug 11 depending on interest.  Will call it the Bullet Bob's Almost Lost Ride and will include some meandering Front Range stuff including the Rollins Pass Road .  Would look to be largely dirt roads versus any jeep stuff so mild but off of our typical paved beaten paths.

So I'll bring this up on Tuesday and we'll see who's up for it and which day suits best!

Reminding everyone that our next RAT meeting is on Tuesday August 6 at our regular spot & time:  “The Rackhouse Pub208 South Kalamath Street Denver , CO 80223-1813 at: 7:00pm

This month’s topic will be: “Tools ~ for the Road!”   We’ve had a number of members who have taken some long road trips this year and a few us will be setting out later this month so this is always a pertinent topic.

I know we have done variations of this topic in years past but I would like this to be a group discussion and/or “show-n-tell”.  So if you have a “tool” in your motorcycle road-trip tool kit that you are particularly fond of or find especially useful, please bring it on Tuesday and share it with the group.

I hope to see everyone there!
