Actually, "Making the Ton" was the goal of the rocker boys who rode the big British bangers like the BSA Gold Star, etc.  The twins of the day could do it easily.
 
My own personal philosophy is that I strive to "Make the Ton" at least once every time I ride my Triumph.  Now of course if I were to abscond with Dans' Daytona, I would most certainly explore the limits of it's post-Ton capabilities!

Absolutely.   They Daytona's top speed is listed at about 165Mph actually, probably in the 170's indicated.   The Spring ST 1050 about 160 Mph.  The ton is definitely not the iconic milepost it once was.  The majority of bikes can do the ton now days, many a ton and a half or more.
