Re: [emrat:3424] Zapp

Yeah, a couple of times weekend before last, although I think I've only done about 75 miles so far.  She's fast, but then again compared to my Scrambler almost anything would be.  The power brakes took some getting used to, and I'm not sure how I'll like the seating position - it's a little bit cramped for my long legs.

Still, I'm loving it!  It's by far the most powerful bike I've ever owned and also the "sportiest."  The Remus exhaust gives a nice 'growl' and the handlebar position seems to be perfect for me.

Since we've got some good weather coming up in the next few days, I will probably be able to take her out again.

Have you had her out yet?

It was on the same Sunday as the Children's Hospital Toy Run, which you may remember was very cold, like in the teens.  His excuse was that he had relocated the bike from somwhere in the Southeast where he ran thicker oil due to the high temperatures, and he was afraid of damaging the engine if he tried to start when it was so cold outside.

My guess is that he knew the battery was most likely dead and because it apparently hadn't been started in weeks (if not months) getting it to turn over would have been difficult.  Obviously, if he'd really been motivated to sell it, he might have put it in the garage (the house he was in had a garage, though it seemed to be some kind of group house or commune so he may not have had access to the garage.)  Also, I notified him at least an hour before getting there that I was on my way - a motivated seller would have gone out and started the bike right away, even if he needed a jump start, so it would be ready to show.

Basically, I got the impression that the guy wasn't really that motivated to sell it.  No registration and an out-of-state title tells me he doesn't want to insure the bike, either, which again reinforces my belief that it probably hasn't been ridden in months.  With all those strikes against it, I saw no reason to inquire further, especially when I liked the looks of the bike in Fort Collins better anyway (I prefer the classic big round headlight of the Roadster to the "cyborg" dual headlights of the Rockster.)

He didn't want to start it?  Sounds like a sculpture, not a motorcycle.

Actually, Curtis, I went to look at that one a couple of weekends ago - it's a POS.  Out of state title, no current registration, shows damage from low siding, bare wires hanging all over the place, luggage badly damaged and unusable, stored outside under a crappy tarp with no battery tender and the owner didn't want to start if for me.  Looks nice in the pictures (which were obviously taken during the summer) but up close - not so much.

I'll put it this way:  I would have offered him $3k for it, the only reason I didn't was because I was afraid he'd say 'yes.'
