Tavis, you make a good point in your concerns about Trail Ridge that weekend, and the route takes it on Saturday. It's slow going on a normal day, but holidays are the worst.
However, most 3FC riders are early risers (old dudes) and could be at the park entrance by 7:00. Not too keen to cross that elevation in early morning hours myself though, but you know, Aerostich.
As you know, you only need to get to the checkpoints on time so how you get there is up to you. I have taken alternate routes on the 3FC before but mostly minor changes. I like encountering the same riders along the way for the most part.
It's a pretty ambitious route, with a couple of 600+ days in the mix. But the chairman is a great route planner and I'm sure that the route will be awesome. I've ridden most of the roads myself over the years and they're all pretty nice, with a couple of straight flat windy stretches to help you appreciate the good bits.
Looking forward to riding it with you guys next year.

Looking at the route though, there are some ways those of us who live in CO could skip some of the route. I for one am not quite sold on riding through Rocky Mountain National Park on Labor day.Could even stop at home for the one night we have to check in at Longmont, even to just chuck a bag of laundry and pick up some fresh clothes.I am looking forward to it though, it looks like a fun if long ride.TavisOn Mon, Dec 16, 2019 at 2:19 PM Steve Smith <shmitty74@gmail.com> wrote:True enough Norm, but hopefully by day 4 I won't be able to feel my derrière anymore. Lots of fun and familiar roads around CO. That first day is gonna be a long one.
