Re: [emrat:2875] Re: Fall Colors Ride?

Well, I am going up hunting on Sunday so I won't be able to ride but there are a lot of nice colors along 285.

Here's a nice loop if you want to do an all-day ride:  Take I-70 West through Vail to Minturn, then turn Southeast on US 24 to Leadville, South to Buena Vista and then back to Denver via US 285 or for a longer ride, continue East on 24 over Wilkerson Pass to Woodland Park and then up CO 126 through Deckers to Pine Junction and then back to Denver via 285.

I agree, I think we may hit road closures in many places and debris on the roads. Anyone have a MC Butler map to choose another area? I have one, but I am not the best judge of the roads and I am still tentative for Sunday.

The weather is looking better for this weekend, but not sure about the roads. Surely Lyons and Estes Park will be a bit of a mess still by this weekend. I'm wondering if we should think about another route if we still want to do this on Sunday. I'm not as familiar with some of the mountain roads south of I-70...but that might be a better direction to head.

Anyone have any ideas?

After the great ride on Sunday, I thought I would throw out a suggestion for a ride to see some of the fall colors up in the mountains and also hit up Trail Ridge Road (hopefully) before it closes for the season.

Possible route

Meet in Golden, head up US-6 to US-40 to Winter Park (B), then on to Granby (C) past Grand Lake then up through Rocky Mountain National Park and over Trail Ridge Road ($10 entrance fee for motorcycles), Estes Park (D) (lunch/gas?), then down the Peak to Peak Highway CO-7, CO-72, CO-119, US-6 back to Golden.

Duration

GoogleMaps shows as 217mi, 5:20 driving time. Bit of a long one, but a good chance to hit up some beautiful country before the fall/winter is fully upon us. If we are kickstands up at 8:00am we can be still be home at a decent time in the afternoon. I've done this route (in the reverse direction) and it was just about 6 hours including stop for breakfast in Winter Park.

Dates

9news is forecasting peak fall colors in that area Sep 18-Sep 29. How about Saturday Sep 21 or Sunday Sep 22?

So what do you all think?
