RE: [emrat:2970] Fall Overnight 2013 - High Plains Drifter Ride

Tim
I guess I need to try the Avons. I still cannot get more than 6000 out of a front and did three Metzlers in 11,000 miles in the rear before switching to the car tire.
Regarding the car tire.At parking lot speeds you know it is on there. At anything over 20MPH I cannot tell a difference.

I have a dirt driveway and it can be a handful because the driveway is not flat and smooth. The tire wants to direct the bike.

But once you get on the pavement it works great. I don't do it very often but can drag my heels and the feelers on the pegs and it has never felt like it was getting ready to let go. I cannot feel the "flatness" of the tire once I'm moving. I can roll edge to edge and I don't think I am using any more countersteering pressure than I did before.
The ride is smoother (at 28psi) and the wet weather and braking are much better.

After running this one for 24,000 miles, I will replace it with another. And it was $85.00.

I run Avon tires on my Rocket.  I usually get between 9 and 10 thousand miles on the rear and usually double that for the front.  I've heard of guys running car tires on the Rocket - how does it handle in twisties?

I ride mine fairly aggressively. I certainly don't baby it.
Time for tires again.
Don't know if you remember seeing mine but I have been running a car tire.
I have 24,000 miles on this one and will replace this winter. The center still looks good but the edges are worn beyond the rain grooves.
It has been an interesting experiment and I will run another one.

What tires do you use and how many miles do you get out of each?

All,

This year for the fall overnight ride we will be to traveling to Amarillo, Texas the weekend of October 5-6, 2013. The Plan is to depart Franktown at 8:00am on October 5 traveling east on highway 86 to Limon then heading south on highway 287 to Amarillo. Once in Amarillo we will be staying at the Best Western-Santa Fe. We can then take a free limo ride to dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Below you will find information on the Best Western, Big Texan Steak Ranch and the planned route.

Denise and I have stayed at the Best Western in Amarillo and it's a nice hotel. Room rates are $69.99 plus tax for 2 Queen/1 King Bed room. The Big Texan Steak Ranch restaurant has received many honors such as being named to MAXIM Magazine's list of Top 10 Steak Houses in America! If you're really hungry you can step up to the 72oz Steak challenge. You must consume the complete meal in one hour and the meal consists of a Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato, Salad, with Roll, Butter and of course the 72 oz. Steak.

If you plan on joining the group please let me know what the range of your motorcycle is so I can plan the fuel stops.
