Wondering if it was cased by the bikers or the SUV to start with. Sounds like they were cutting up and the guy got caught in the middle, which caused the first incident. Not sure who side to take here. But at any rate, there is relative safety in numbers when it comes to bikes.
-- And you don't ant to mess with NYC bikers! They live under threat everyday on the road. I have ridden there and don't recommend it.
