Part-time, Temporary Housing Stabilization Advocate
The Gathering Place

This position reports to:  Manager of the Community Access Team        
Department: Personal Growth
FLSA Exemption Status: Part time (20 hours per week), Temporary (Oct 2013-Dec 2013). Longer term employment possible depending on funding availability.
 
General Purpose:  The Housing Stabilization Advocate works with our clients to prepare them in obtaining and retaining stable housing.  This position helps identify and secure resources for the client to aid them keeping their housing and eventually becoming self-sufficient. The case load is 30 adult unaccompanied members (not families) of The Gathering Place.
 
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Educate and assist prospective housing program participants in becoming “housing ready” (securing income, addressing legal issues, and obtaining required documents among other things) on an on-going basis
  • Screen prospective housing program participants to determine their eligibility and verify that all program requirement are met prior to enrolling them in the program as needed
  • Meet with program participants to determine their individual needs, including necessary supportive services that would assist them in being self-sufficient on an on-going basis
  • Carry out basic case management duties; completing paperwork with clients, assisting clients in creating a personalized budget, guide them in goal setting, check- in with clients on a regular, pre-arranged basis (not less than one meeting per month), assist them in crisis management if necessary and other case management duties daily
  • Make appropriate referrals to other community programs and agencies
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the social service network in Denver metro area including programs, services, housing and transportation
  • Build relationships and collaborate with other nonprofit organizations and property management companies for future client referrals on an on-going basis
  • Provide general housing information to the entire TGP member community through a housing information board and housing announcements
  • Write and submit quarterly reports to the appropriate government grant entity, based on tracked data and grant outcome requirements
  • Attend a variety of meetings including a weekly supervision meeting, staff meeting, team meeting and any meetings on or off- site related to the Housing Stabilization Program
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
 
Supervisory Duties: 
This position does not supervise any employees. It does supervise one 20- hour per week Masters level intern focused on housing resources
 
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible in a fast- paced environment
  • Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office, Word and Excel and ability to learn more if needed
  • Ability to record client data in HMIS and ETO’s Social Solutions or willingness to learn
  • Ability to complete some accounting tasks; complete and record Requests for Payment forms, maintain spreadsheets for individual client expenditures and for overall program expenditures
  • Knowledge of Denver’s Road Home (DRH) and ability to participate on the DRH Implementation Committee
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and manage work time accordingly
  • Ability to be compassionate, mature and supportive
  • Must have good professional boundaries
  • Knowledge of cultural difference and ability to respond appropriately
  • Spanish- speaking a plus
 
Education or Formal Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field
 
Experience:
  • Three years of case management experience         
 
Physical Activities:
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 lbs

This position reports to:  Community Access Team Manager    
Department:  Personal Growth
FLSA Exemption Status:  Full- time, non- exempt
 
General Purpose:  This position is responsible for welcoming guests to The Gathering Place and offering basic services to members.
 
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Welcome and sign members in daily in order to assist in documenting the volume and impact of the services that are received at The Gathering Place.
  • Answer agency phones to provide general information, referrals and crisis intervention on a daily basis.
  • Provide services distributing mail, personal hygiene items and food as well as receiving messages for members daily.     
  • Sign members up daily for various emergency services such as showers, laundry and nap room. Accept donations and provide receipts on an as- needed basis. 
  • Responsible for crisis management and intervention; be able to make decisions regarding de-escalating violence, aggression, drug and alcohol behavior and chronic mental illness.
  • Maintain a safe environment for the community at all times.
  • Engage with members daily in order to build positive relationships and enrich our community.
  • Interact with our agency volunteers and volunteers from collaborative agencies to ensure that services are delivered seamlessly daily.
  • Translate documents from English to Spanish as-needed
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven ability to read, write and speak fluent Spanish.
  • Must have skills in crisis management
  • Must have proven successful conflict management skills
  • Knowledge of resources in Denver for homeless individuals and families.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Current knowledge of or desire to learn Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other computer programs and software.
  • Ability to multi- task in a unique, fast- paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a variety of work group sizes
  • Ability to listen compassionately and suspend judgment in order to accommodate the needs of individuals and include them in a highly diverse setting.
 
 
Education or Formal Training
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
              
Experience:
  • Previous nonprofit experience a plus, but not a requirement.
 
Physical Activities:
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
