Dear Service Providers,

Immigrant integration is a dynamic, two-way process in which newcomers and the receiving society work together to build secure, vibrant, and cohesive communities. As an intentional effort, integration engages and transforms all community members, reaping shared benefits and creating a new whole that is greater than the sum of its parts (Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees).

Hello Meg,

I so enjoyed meeting you today!  What an impressive coalition of providers you convene, kudos to you.  And I greatly appreciated the opportunity to give shout outs for the EGTC Block Party and the scholarships we have available for our ESL classes.

As pledged, here is a flyer for the Block Party and the application for the scholarships dedicated to those in the 3 zipcodes I mentioned.   Many thanks for spreading our good word!

Additionally, as Linda indicated, thanks to the Emily Griffith Foundation, there are other pools of money available for those living in other parts of the area; here’s a description:

General Info: The Emily Griffith Foundation provides funding for scholarships to pay for English (ESL) classes.  The scholarships are for students who have financial need and are unable to pay the full amount of the classes themselves.  Scholarships partially fund the cost of class.  The student is responsible for paying any additional portion of tuition or books.
Eligibility: ESL scholarships are open to all ESL students who require financial assistance.  Students must maintain 75% attendance and receive a grade of C or higher to be eligible.  ESL classes are designed for individuals who do not speak English as their first language.
Availability: Funding for the ESL scholarships are limited.  Not all students who apply will receive a scholarship.  Once funding for the term is complete, no additional scholarship will be issued until the next term.  Students are encouraged to apply as soon as registration starts.  In general, registration begins 4 weeks prior to the start of classes.
Application Process
1.       Meet with advisor in the Language Learning Center (1250 Welton Street, Room 248)
2.       Complete the scholarship application
3.       New students who have never enrolled in ESL classes at Emily Griffith Technical College must first take an assessment test to determine their English level
4.       All scholarship applications will be reviewed for a period of up to two weeks.
5.       Once a decision is made, the student will be notified whether he/she has been awarded the scholarship.
6.       Selection for the scholarship will be based on the student’s application and financial need.

We appreciate your enthusiastic support.  Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s any other information I can provide.

Best wishes,
Christine
