As an ex-police reporter, I agree with all the comments below about trying your best to stay out of road-rage incidents when you are on a bike (or in a car).
The bad outcome—serious injury, damage to your beloved bike or death—is simply not worth the natural inclination of some people to confront a bad driver or rider.
That said, if someone tries to assault you with their vehicle, that is considered a deadly weapon under state law, and you do have the right to defend yourself.
There have been many incidents over the years across the country when someone tries to run over law enforcement officers, who respond by firing on the driver, and such cases are almost always ruled justifiable.
Going through the legal aftermath of an incident in which your actions are ruled justifiable would be horrible, expensive and could well ruin your life in ways that cannot be foreseen.
Stop, pull out your smart phone and call *CSP to report the driver. Or a bad rider.

I dunno, Norm. I've got a CCW permit but I don't carry when I ride. After all, I'm right handed and honestly, if I've got a right hand free, I'm going to twist the throttle and get away from the situation, not get into a fight with someone.
Trying to play highway vigilante or administrator-of-justice-to-dumb-drivers is almost always going to end badly for you as the rider.
There's a saying that goes "don't bring a knife to a gunfight."
I would amend that to say "don't bring a motorcycle to a car-fight." You'll lose every time.

I'm now beginning to understand the big discussion on the Three Flags website about how to bring your concealed carry firearm into Canada. Seriously, this has been a major issue for some of the riders. Now I get it.

Agreed. When I was riding to Grand Juction on I-70 last week, some dbag thought I was going too slow at 80 mph in the left lane and yelled at me. I just kept quiet. Not worth the confrontation and hazard being on the bike vs. the schmuck in the car.

I had a neighbor years ago who had a guy hit him (both in cars) and then take off. He chased after him and at a red light, he ran up to the car to say "what the hell are you doing, you hit me". The guy stuck a knife in his stomach and drove off. Not always a good thing.

Agreed, I felt the same. But I will still re-think. Next one may be a 45 or 9MM with my name on it.

I agree Chris. If you talk to people in that way, things are probably going to get confrontational to say the least. In todays world, that can get you shot at.

Sorry. Tapping or asking nicely is one thing. But saying, "put down your f*ckin phone" would lead many people to be angry. I'm not trying to justify the car hitting the motorcycle, but there are better ways to bring this to a driver's attention than what this biker did. Just my 2 cents...

Funny, I was just telling someone today at Erico's track day, how I have tapped on some windows when I have seen people texting while driving. I may re-think that strategy going forward after seeing this.
