Re: [emrat:7224] Fwd: Motorcycle Express Lane Information

I believe if you have multiple bikes, like multiple cars, you still only need the one account with a $35 balance.  I have 2 cars and 1 bike on my account now.

And if one owns multiple bikes?  Dedicate one for US 36?

I get it. It's a pain to have to register, it's a pain to give the government $35 of your money to hold on to interest free.  Even if you never incur a charge, they are locking up $35 of your money on a balance you may never use a dime of.  But I gave up on that one years ago, because I got the account a year or two prior to the license plate billing for E-470.

Then there is the matter of where to put that sticker. My old one became brittle, dry and flaked off.  Likely a combo of being exposed to the elements and the heat from the headlights.

I hear what you're saying Sean, but just for the record I still think it's BS. They're just too cheap to buy the software to cross reference the license plate database to their toll collection system so they decided to play the "pass required" card so that the public can do that for them. I used to work for the government, I know how it works.

Okay NOW I'm done whinging on about it. Maybe. :)

Keep in mind that while you need to open up the toll account with a $35 balance, it is only subtracted from if you use toll roads such as E-470.   Motorcycles are permitted to use the HOV lanes as per Federal rules and they are permitted to use them for free.  They are only requiring the pass so that the toll equipment can properly register you as a motorcycle and ensure your travel is free.

Nobody is saying you can't travel the HOV lanes for free, even CDOT.  They only want to ensure that your travel in the HOV lane is free.

Thanks for passing the information on Sean. That said I say it's BS for CDOT to make it mandatory to have a pass for motorcycles. So screw that. Federal rules say motorcycles can use HOV lanes so they have to deal with it. Infrequent users and tourists aren't gonna register for it. Either it's free or it ain't.

Rant over! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Subject:[emrat:7214] Fwd: Motorcycle Express Lane Information

Just an FYI for anyone who plans to use the US 36 Express Lanes

Begin forwarded message:

With the opening of the US 36 Express Lanes, there have been some minor changes to the motorcycle usage of these HOV lanes. Motorcycles will still be able to use the HOV Express Lanes for free, but they are required to have a pass so the toll equipment can tell that you are a motorcycle riding for free. To set up a pass, your members will need to visit expresstoll.com to register for a motorcycle sticker tag - a clear plastic tag that attaches to your headlamp. Please pass on this information, as well as the attached fact sheet, to your membership, friends and family.

If you have further questions, or would like to set up a meeting to discuss, please reach out to both Megan Castle (megan.castle@state.co.us) and Liz Viscardi (liz@cig-pr.com) to do so.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
