Visit Revzilla.com. They do review videos of a lot of their products that are very helpful. Personally, I have a set of Icons that are taller than a hiking boot, but not quite motocross boot height. They protected me pretty well on a pretty good off on a trail on the v-strom. If they were a little taller, I might not have a tiny scar on my shin, but they were designed for street.
I also really like the ski boot style buckles.
