Attached you will find the Center for Family Opportunity program calendar for June 2015.  We have a ton of wonderful classes and services opportunities for parents to engage in during the month of June.  Below I’ve listed some descriptions of the classes that will be offered.  If you have families who are interested in these opportunities, please have them call the Center for Family Opportunity at 720-424-8688 or stop by College View to get registered.  If they are new to the Center for Family Opportunity they will need to complete the registration packet prior to participating in services.  Spanish interpretation will be offered for all workshop/class opportunities.

Financial Workshops (3 Class Series)
Monday June 8, 8:30 – 10:00 am: Get the Most Out of your Paycheck
·        Learn about tools and strategies for streamlining your money management system
·        Learn how to manage a budget/spending plan as a tool for achieving your goals
·        Identify strategies for saving money that work for you
Monday June 15, 8:30 – 10:00 am: Talking to Children about Money
·        Learn about resources to help you teach your children age appropriate skills around money and personal finance
·        Identify money beliefs and how they influence our habits
·        Identify priorities, values and goals and how they create our personal definition of financial success
Monday June 22, 8:30 – 10:00 am: Create Great Credit and Reduce Debt
·        Learn the difference between credit reports and credit score
·        Identify the impact credit can have on your life and how to improve your credit
·        Identify strategies to manage and reduce your debt
Parenting Workshops
Tuesday June 9th 8:30am-10:30am: Parenting with the End in Mind (Part 1)
·        Learn to shift the focus from child’s misbehavior to looking at a child’s needs
·        Learn practical skills that will help you improve your relationship with your child
Tuesday June 16th 8:30am-10:30am: Parenting with the End in Mind (Part 2)
·        Learn ways to be firm and friendly while offering options to resolve common conflicts
·        Learn how to provide your child with choices, giving them some control over their own situations
·        Learn skills and strategies to help you redirect power struggles with your child
Thursday June 11th, 18th & 25th 8:30am-10:00am:  Equity and Inclusion for Families (3 part series):
·        Learn more about how to have purposeful conversations
·        Develop skill building through deep listening and conversations on bias
·        Engage in an interactive and conversational approach to looking at achievement, discipline and community engagement in Denver Public Schools
Friday June 19th 8:30am-10:30am:  Parent Engagement Focus Group
·        Identify ways to engage parents who currently are not engaged in their child’s school
·        Provide suggestions about attractive workshops offerings for parents
·        Identify gaps in parent engagement efforts and provide potential solutions
Job Skills & Business Classes
Tuesday June 23rd 1:00pm-3:00pm: Community Entrepreneur Orientation
  • Learn how to start the business planning process
  • Get focused on building a solid personal foundation
  • Get informed on how to Launch Your Business in 12 Weeks
Wednesdays & Thursdays Practice Your English on the Web
·        Practice vocabulary, grammar, listening and reading in English
·        Strengthen your computer skills
