This will be an informative and interactive training that will provide background of the School-to-Jail Track, the historical work and progress in Colorado, along with review of the 2nd Annual Colorado School Discipline Report Card. Joining us for the Webinar is Jim Freeman, the founder and executive director of Grassroots Action Support Team. Attendees will take with them comprehensive knowledge and tools for engagement to End the School-to-Jail Track in their local school districts. Race and School Discipline in Colorado: Differential and Unequal July 16, 2015 12:00-1:00pm MST The second presentation in Padres & Jóvenes Unidos’ 2015 Summer Webinar Series is Race and School Discipline in Colorado: Differential and Unequal. As highlighted in the 2nd Annual Colorado School Discipline Report Card, “zero-tolerance” school discipline is identified as one of the most important factors pushing youth of color out of school. Join us for an interactive discussion as to why out-of-school suspensions, expulsions, and referrals to law enforcement rates for White students are decreasing faster than those of Black, Latino, and Native American students. Attendees will receive information on what racial disparity in school discipline is and the extreme consequences it has our youth, families and communities. Our guest will be Russell Skiba, Professor in Counseling and Educational Psychology and Director of the Equity Project at Indiana University, specializing in areas of school violence, school discipline, classroom management, and equity in education. Participants will be given tools to take action against unequal and unfair discipline practices in their school. Police in Schools and School Discipline September 17, 2015 12:00-1:00pm MST The final presentation in Padres & Jóvenes Unidos’ 2015 Summer Webinar Series is Police in Schools and School Discipline. Join us to learn more about the relationship between police in schools and school discipline as well as how it relates to the School-to-Jail Track in Colorado. Our guest will be Janelle Krueger, Manager of Expelled and At-Risk Student Services Program from Colorado Department of Education. Attendees will gain information on the history and current role of police in schools, the harmful impact of the criminalization of youth behavior, and be provided with tools and examples of how youth, parents, educators, administrators, law enforcement, and community members can work together to take action against the School-to-Jail Track.
