Wife and I will actually be in that area this weekend for the Beecher Island Reunion.  We'll be camping in our little trailer.  Might try to get time to check out the museum.

David, I enjoyed your account of your ride to Kansas yesterday.  But you should know that I'm the only native Kansan in EMRAT.  At least I think I am . . . .

There also is another attraction: The Kansas Motorcycle Museum in Marquette.

Now, this may surprise some, but the riding gets better once U.S. 36 begins to follow the Republican River valley and U.S. 24 follows the Solomon River valley.  Curving roads, small towns and river-bottom farms.

East of U.S. 81, which politically and geographically divides the state into "eastern Kansas" and "western Kansas," you start to encounter woods, hills, curves, etc.  Many state and county roads on which to have fun on a bike.

And lots of history, if you take the time to read up on it.  Just stay away from I-70.

One gem of Kansas is the Flint Hills, which in the springtime is an amazing green sea of grass that undulates to the horizon, reminding one of the ocean.  Because of this, many riders from Wichita, and the Topeka-Lawrence-Kansas City region converge on Council Grove.

Lest anyone think Kansas is totally boring, just ride out there in the springtime and early summer.  But, first, ask Norm Wright about his experience riding across Kansas a couple of years ago when be brought his newly purchased BMW back to Colorado.  The storms are guaranteed to scare the bejesus out of you, more so if you are on a bike!

Looking on google maps yesterday morning wondering where to go for a ride on my day off and Ive never ridden east before so while looking whats just over the border, I zoomed into St Francis and low and behold they have a Motorcycle Museum, sorted! Unfortunately as you all may know, US-36 East is long, straight and kinda boring but this little gem makes it well worth it....

The museum just opened this April/May and theres plenty of pics on their website showing construction as it was purpose built with a huge vault in the middle.

I got a late start, setting off from Denver at 10:45am but there wasn't any traffic so made really good time. Didn't realize the time change until I was back at home looking at my pics. Theres a bunch of old Harleys and Indians but then plenty of brands I'd never heard of and many pre war, oldest being a 1902 Orient. Theres a $7 suggested donation. They have a 76 Bonnie and a Norton Commando.

On the way back, I blew past a cop coming the other way but he was in-between cars so all I heard was a chirp on his siren and his lights lit up briefly. I rolled off the throttle and thought he was coming up behind me, would of been my first ever bike ticket, but it was just some locals who I let over take me. Once I was sure, I was back on the throttle enjoying extra power of the T120. Sadly it was windy the whole way there and back, blowing north so I felt like a monkey hanging off the bike the whole way.
