So Erica and I are trying to decide what we are going to do tomorrow night. There is first Thursday at crash 45 and GBs, plus Wayne mentioned World of Beer. We will probably do GBs or world of beer. What is everyone else planning?

[The Network] Coming soon: Moving Clients from Dependence to Self-Sufficiency, September 19

Don't miss The Network's upcoming event:
Moving Clients from Dependence to Self-Sufficiency
September 19, 9am-3pm
Location: Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, 2017 W. 9th Avenue, Denver 80204
For online registration, please visit: Moving Clients from Dependence to Self-Sufficiency

Accompanying the recent economic downturn, more families have fallen into poverty than at any other time in recent history. They have become disconnected from community life; from meaningful participation and contribution. This costs all of us dearly; our communities need everyone to be a productive member if they are to truly thrive. Those on the edge of community life are often labeled (and then dismissed) as being homeless, disabled, incarcerated, chronically ill, insane, ex-cons, youth-at-risk, or poor. The social integration of these disconnected people matters for three critical reasons.
  • Exclusion costs the labeled person the opportunity to be a productive community member;
  • This deprives the community of whatever contributions they might offer; and
  • Public resources that could be better used to support people in contributing as citizens and community members are tied up in keeping people on the edge of the community—barely surviving, unproductive and dependent.
We can improve our response to these marginalized people by offering them a bridge to productive community membership. The current programs-FOR-clients model provides specific kinds of necessary assistance, but often doesn't extend such a bridge. Service providers can successfully build on this model to create one which emphasizes community-building WITH clients. This workshop will provide a proven approach for making a shift to more effective services and community building, by involving a broad circle of the community, working in partnership create a better future for all.

Attendees will learn practical ways to create a positive path into community for a family or an individual, a path which can lead to meaning, friends, new resources and income. Participants will leave with immediately useful tools for action as a direct service provider, supervisor, administrator, or family member.

  • Where do we start? How do we assess, with the family, the needs and opportunities for new relationships and connections?
  • What do we do? Making a focused, family-centered plan for moving from being labeled as a consumer, dependent on community resources, to action as a productive member of society.
  • What services and supports will help? Navigation will access services, supports, assets of each family.
  • What builds connections and new relationships? Teach families community-connection methods to build a path of relationships into their communities.
  • How does our agency need to change? How can we can offer both access to services AND connection to our community with our limited resources.
  • What policy change will help? What policies will help families move from dependency and isolation to productive community membership?

I had a minor accident near Spokane, WA. Bike ok but I am joining Sarah on the disabled list. I separated my shoulder and will be unable to go to Sturgis. I have 5 nights reserved at Creekside beginning Friday but I think dates are flexible. I also have Doobie Bros ticket at Buffalo Chip for a week from Tuesday
Let me know if anyone wants either. Good injury discount.

Yep, those are original pipes on the 98 Sprint Sport. Last of it's kind. See it on Denver Craigslist. It will fit a 6 footer and up better than average size folks.

Subject: [emrat:2628] Out for Sturgis

I had a minor accident near Spokane, WA. Bike ok but I am joining Sarah on the disabled list. I separated my shoulder and will be unable to go to Sturgis. I have 5 nights reserved at Creekside beginning Friday but I think dates are flexible. I also have Doobie Bros ticket at Buffalo Chip for a week from Tuesday
Let me know if anyone wants either. Good injury discount.

[emrat:2642] Re: Out for Sturgis

Holy! Sorry to her that Norm. What happened? I was really looking forward to the ride up with you. Get well!
I was not sure who was left leaving on Friday morning since Dan and others were leaving the day before. I see Rick was going on Friday so I will coordinate with him to meet on I76. I was not sure whom else was meeting you in Morrison, but it seems meeting on I76 may be the new plan.

Take care, keep the shinny side up!

Hi Rick,

I will meet you on Friday morning. My number is 303.884.4567. I'm in Wash Park so I76 is better for me than meeting folks in Morrison. What time were you thinking?

Thanks

Doc

I am planning to ride up to Sturgis on Friday, and was going to take Dan's route.  I-76 to Fort Morgan, CO-52, CO-14, CO-71 North to Kimball, Scottsbluff, and Hot Springs.  From there we have multiple routes we can choose from depending on the time.

I'll be leaving from Boulder, and I'd like to get an early start.  If anyone else would like to take that route, a good meeting place is the Shamrock gas station at I-76 and E152nd Ave (Bromley Lane) next to the Wendy's, you can see the Lowes from the hi way.

Let me know if you'd like to meet up.

Mr. Curtis Graves suggested I consider buying some other brand of bike, like the Motor Guzzi V7, given that I now own six Triumphs.

Attached is a photo that shows why I'm so devoted to Triumphs: rural England, September 1971.

Yes, that's me, long hair, John Lennon glasses,  an iconic Belstaff waxed-cotton riding outfit, British army boots--and my brand-new 1971 TR6R Tiger . . . . which I still have.

Three months, and 6,000 miles later, when I returned to London, I think my genetic structure had been modified to include tiny Triumph logos.
