RE: [emrat:4838] Triumphs in Taos - Saddlesore 1000?

Just Googling around this morning and came up with a tentative route:

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=taos,+nm&daddr=Socorro,+NM+to:roswell,+nm+to:Lubbock,+TX+to:Amarillo,+TX+to:lamar,+co+to:Denver,+CO&hl=en&ll=37.666429,-106.611328&spn=7.476904,14.227295&sll=36.75649,-101.392822&sspn=7.56736,14.227295&geocode=FdCHKwIdNhW1-Smx_BF_2mQXhzGCt6lhg5HqkA%3BFaCwBwIdaPeg-SkBlH8Nw04ghzGk5s-iaubu0w%3BFVmO_QEd8BrF-SlV7axlE2XihjF-18905Asb5A%3BFYdbAAIdQtDt-Sk53X3TrRL-hjGHQugiKQTwGg%3BFe1xGQIdfy3u-SkDz0Wy1EgBhzGv0jZoHNHz0A%3BFT8qRQIdsiHi-SkDNRSX9CUMhzEPiopvA3B5Sw%3BFd9YXgIdcg---SnPFx8jqoBrhzHWNoon-PSOEQ&oq=socor&mra=ls&t=m&z=7

The reason I went with this route was because, assuming we depart Taos ~ 5am, this puts us into Denver by around midnight.

I HATE riding in Deer Country after dark. Since Deer aren't as numerous out on the plains as they are in the mountains, I figured a Plains route would be somewhat safer (this is why, for example, I didn't choose a route that had us going West towards Flagstaff and then returning via US 160 and US 285. While that would be more scenic it would also, IMO, be more dangerous especially after dark.)

I also wanted to avoid urban areas as much as possible which is why this route does not go up I-25. I've been in too many slow-moving traffic jams on I-25 between Pueblo and Fort Collins to want to risk that.

Any input/tips/suggestions would be welcome!

Martin

#yiv8236850554 I've
done 1500 in 3 days before. I would like to do a trip to the
west coast and back but like you, not sure when I will have
the time with work and all.

(Actually, it was Steve and Capt. Bob's presentation
about the "Three Flags" ride they did last year
that really kindled my interest in finally doing a ride like
this, so in a way they're the ones to blame for me
getting a BMW!!! :) )

Butt" rides are rides certified by the Iron Butt
Association of long-distance riders. There are two
"introductory" rides to the Iron Butt Association,
the Saddlesore 1000, 1000 miles in 24 hours or less, and
the Bunburner 1500, 1500 miles in 36 hours or less.

just putting out this "feeler" to see if there

only just started planning, looking at routes, times, etc,
but I figure I may not be the only one in the group
who's been wanting to do such a ride for a while.
