RE: [emrat:4929] Motorcycle horns

I prefer the 9MM or 40 Caliber - it gets their attention! Emoji    Emoji

I can either give them the middle finger salute or use the horn.  The horn would be the least violent form of stress relief.

At the risk of going off topic, what exactly is the point of a motorcycle horn?  By the time you get to a point where you can consciously use it, the "crisis" has already passed and the only purpose of the horn is to let the driver know you're pissed off.  In 16+ years of riding I'll bet I've used my horn maybe half a dozen times.

A horn isn't going to change anyone's behavior.  In fact, it could make it worse:  Think about someone turning left in front of you.  If they hear a horn their first inclination might be to hit the brakes and stop, right there in the middle of an intersection.  After all, the reason they turned in front of you is because they didn't see you.  Hearing a horn might make them look at you or it might make them lock up their brakes thinking that the warning is coming from another direction.

IMO it's better to use the time and energy you'd waste on trying to find the horn button with finding an exit from the dangerous situation and moving on.

 Al,
Motorcycle Consumer News recently ran an article
comparing horns.  I have my copies at home.
Unless someone else can send you a digital copy of the MCN
article, I can make a copy and mail it to you
tomorrow.  Other magazines may have run similar
 articles,
but I can't recall any right offhand.

 Cheers,
 Dan

 Has anyone come across an
 aftermarket horn they could recommend?

 I think most everyone
would agree that the factory horns sound like a kazoo.
I am tired of almost getting sideswiped by a car and
can only vent my frustration with my kazoo sounding
 horn.
