Yeah, I recall getting the news about Ed., Jr. while at TNT. It really put a sense of sorrow over the weekend. But TNT weekend, also serves to remind me of Ed, Jr. and what a warm and generous man he was. Very giving of his time and very devoted to caring for his lovely wife, well into the severe stages of Alzheimer's.Anyone who is a fan of motorcycling should at the very least get themselves a basic history of Ed, Jr and his Dad, Ed "Iron Man" Kretz. Both AMA Hall of Famers and Iron Man was arguably the greatest racer of his time.He had an awesome collection of memorabilia and news clippingsat his home "museum." Fantastic collection of bikes. I always enjoyed the visits and the history he would share.Visiting Ed, Jr. earlier that summer and then seeing his Indian and photos at the Indian booth at Sturgis, are the last memories I have of him.R.I.P Ed, he was an awesome individual and it was a true honor to get to know him!- Sean
Sent from my iPhone--Let me know Sean and I can get my check to Roy as well. I posted on the FB page telling them I wanted a T-shirt but I won't be in town to join in on the ride.I brought this to the attention of the EM/RATS at the meeting tonight but I was somewhat surprised no one knew who Eddie Jr was or his Dad for that matter the Iron Man...winner of the first Daytona 200. Hopefully they will read about Eddie on his FB page and get inspired to attend the Memorial Ride for Eddie Jr. He was a wonderful individual and I enjoyed my many visits with him. To have one of the original world class motorcycle racers here in Sedalia was certainly a treat for me.Bob--In a message dated 9/2/2014 8:51:43 P.M. Re: [emrat:5639] Re: Ed Kretz Jr Memorial Ride
Yep...that was very sad news indeed. Eddie and I always talked about going for a ride together on our classic Triumphs. He had his original 1967 T120R at his house and he really loved my 68 T120R when I rode it out there. He took a number of pictures of it.. Unfortunately we never got the chance but I certainly will always appreciate his interest in doing so. That meant so much to me.
