Here is some info from one of the horses (Valvoline's) mouth...

Mixing brands is not the best practice because the additive systems in each may be different and when mixed may not function as efficiently as desired. However, no serious problems will occur if you must add a different brand of equivalent quality between oil changes. It is very important to maintain proper oil level.

Anybody know if different brands of synthetic oil are compatable? I have Motul 10-W40 in the Tiger and it is a greenish color. I have a liter of Silkolene , same weight, however it is red in color and labelled as synthetic ester. Could I use this to top off my bike?  EWB
