No Reserve: 5k-Mile 2009 BMW R1200 RT-P for Charity

This 2009 BMW R1200 RT-P was sold new at Long Beach BMW and subsequently used in parades. RT-P models came from the factory with flashing lights, a siren, protection bars, a rear cargo container, and other features intended for law enforcement use. The odometer now shows just over 5k miles, and power is provided by a 1,170cc boxer-twin mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The previous owner acquired the motorcycle three years ago and recently donated it to the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation, a non-profit charity devoted to supporting CHP employees and their families. This R1200 RT-P is now offered by the seller on behalf of the 11-99 Foundation with a build sheet and a clean California title. The entire winning bid amount from this auction, along with the BaT buyer's fee, will go to the charity.

The body panels and cases are finished in black and white, and a California Highway Patrol decal can be seen on the right-side faring. The bike features front and rear light bars, a 100-watt siren, and panniers. A rear cargo box is equipped in lieu of a passenger seat, and "Outrider" script has been added on both sides. Stainless steel protection bars are mounted outboard of the front fairings and ahead of the panniers.

Suspension consists of BMW's front Telelever uprights and rear Paralever single-sided aluminum swingarm. Twin disc brakes are fitted up front and a single unit is equipped out back. The RDC tire-pressure monitoring system is equipped. A build sheet with a list of original options can be seen in the gallery below.

Switches on the the handlebars control the electronically-adjustable windscreen, the heated seat, and the on-board computer. RT-P models are equipped with a speed recording feature which allows for a rider to log their speed using the "BC" button on the right handlebar. 5k miles are shown on the electronic odometer.

The 1,170cc boxer-twin is oil-cooled and features single overhead camshafts and electronic fuel injection. The 6-speed constant-mesh Enduro gearbox (X631A) is equipped with a hydraulically-operated single-disc dry clutch. RT-P examples also come equipped with two batteries.

The CHP 11-99 Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization devoted to supporting CHP employees and their families in times of need. The foundation raises funds to provide CHP families with emergency assistance during disasters or hardship, on- and off-duty death benefits, and academic & vocational scholarships for children of CHP employees. Since 1982, the 11-99 Foundation has provided over $35 million to CHP families.
