I have the Spot Gen3 and it works ok. The subscription always seems a bit much, bu the tracking is decent and the SOS button is nice to know it's there. If I had to go get a new one I would probably go with the Garmin inReach for the two way messaging.

I'm contemplating some Iron Butt rides this Summer and for some of them a tracker is required for "certification" (I'm thinking particularly the "Heaven-to-Hell" where you ride from the top of Mount Evans to Badwater Basin in Death Valley, the highest- and lowest-paved roads in North America, respectively.) 

Maybe a good topic for a presentation?  If there's someone who's willing to do it, that is.
