Community Leaders,

The Colorado Black Round Table is proclaiming September 2013 as Losing Ground Month in the Black Communities of Colorado. In CBRT's outreach efforts to maximize community involvement, we conducted a summer long campaign on the Losing Ground Research and will host a Losing Ground In The Black Community Problem Solving Summit on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 12 p.m.[noon] in the Manual High School auditorium. CBRT's intentions with the campaign and summit are to raise the collective consciousness of the community through community education/information on Losing Ground as well as engage the community in a problem-solving effort. We will compile recommendations in a document for constructive community action for community organizations, churches as well as state and local elected officials. This will be the most important community gathering in the Black community in a number of years. The issue here is that we must act. If we do nothing, we lose more ground. There will also be a community recognition of Civil Rights Pioneers[Wellington and Wilma Webb, Vincent and Rachel Harding, Carlotta Walls-Lanier and Rev. James Peters][See attached Summit Agenda and Losing Ground/School Board Forum Flyer].

Prior to the summit, CBRT will be hosting a DPS School Board Candidates Forum for At-Large and District 4 Candidates running for the DPS Board of Education. This forum will be held in the Manual High School auditorium as well, starting at 9:30 am. Further, Colorado Black Women for Political Action and the African-American Voter Initiative will sponsor a voter registration table to register potential new voters.
