[emrat:6099] FW: Movie Signup, New Year's Day ride and Ride Books

This from the BMW Club. Looks like they need attendees if anyone's interested.

Movie Signup, New Year's Day ride and Ride Books Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have two IMPORTANT announcements to make today.  The first is to remind you again that our traditional first ride of the year is on New Year's Day.  It is also your first opportunity to pick up your very own copy of our famous annual Ride Book.  Details are below.

The second is to remind you about a special event being sponsored by Foothills BMW on Thursday evening, 7:30 pm, January 15th.  It is a private screening of The John Penton Story, shown on the big screen at:

     River Point Stadium 14 Theater
     3565 South Platte River Drive
     Englewood, CO

We need forty (40) more people to reserve their seats or the event will be cancelled (with money back).  This promises to be a terrific motorcycle movie.  Please go to this link and read the review so you will at least know what you are missing if you don't go.  We have until January 5th to reach our target attendance.  The President of the Club wants to see this movie badly.  Sign up at the link page!  Do it now!!!   https://gathr.us/screening/9205
=============================================================
=============================================================
New Year's Day ride (cars allowed in bad weather)

The 2015 Ride Books are here!  The initial distribution will be at the Rockyard Brewery (Castle Rock) luncheon ride on New Year's Day.  To receive your copy, YOU MUST HAVE RENEWED YOUR MEMBERSHIP for 2015.  No exceptions on that.  We will be printing our current membership checklist the night of New Year's eve.

PLEASE NOTE --- If you have not already renewed your membership, the best and least time-consuming way for both you and us is to renew online on the Club's membership webpage:
http://www.bmwmcc.org/membership.php
Paypal does NOT require you to have a Paypal account.  They take credit cards without having a Paypal account.
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/WAX_landing-outside

You will also be able to renew at the restaurant but expect to have to wait your turn at the membership table.  The painless way to receive your Ride Book on New Year's Day will be to have your renewal done before you get there.

The restaurant opens at 11:00 am and there is usually a crowd waiting to get in.  Come a little early!  See you all there!!!

Re: [emrat:6098] Re: The World's Wildest Roads

I gotta agree with Al. I've been on it 3 times and it is amazing. My recommendation is go from south to north. The elevation changes over 7k ft, and 30 miles of tight twisties going downhill will put a kink in your wrists!

Here's a bucket list for those who dare in 2015 and beyond. I'd ride most of these, but you could not pay me enough to ride the "The Road of Death" in Bolivia (Yungas Road). I've read some pretty crazy stories of this road. Many die each year. Anyway, thought this would be of interest.

Cheers! Happy New Year!

Re: [emrat:6097] Three Flags Info

I plan on going too. As I understand it, last years event was the farthest east that the ride has ever been so don't hold your breath waiting for another one through Nebraska. I am figuring on a full 2 weeks to do this ride, mostly because its so far west. I've been wanting to ride through that area for years and this looks like a great way to do it.

As for the route Norm, they do a lot of scouting trips in preparation for the event. Most of the riders have a simple mantra, "Ride the Route". I know that they are looking for the best roads out there, and since they're a California based club this is their backyard so to speak. I will likely follow the route too, as the one we rode last year was pretty nice. I did veer off but only a couple of times for roads that I prefer to ride. Like Bob said as long as you hit the check points you can change it as you see fit. I'd bet that they will have a good one figured out though.

Hope to see you there!

Dang, seems like they're taking an even farther West route than they did last year.  Would love to do this run but I can't take the time.  2 days just to get to the starting point and 2 days from the end to get home is just a little too much for me.

I'm hoping maybe next year they'll go with a more "Central" alignment like the one that Steve and Tim did a couple of years ago.

Hi guys and gals:

Registration for the Three Flags Classic opens at 12:01 AM, January 1st.  It goes from Tijuana to Victoria Island leaving the Friday before Labor Day and ending Tuesday night with the banquet.  The fee is $295 per rider.  Registration will include assigning a number and the cap is 300.  This is the 40th annual.

Route is not listed yet on the Forum but preliminary info says it looks like they will not ride long in Calif, I-15 out of San Diego, west to US 395N to Reno.  Then it gets better including going thru John Day, OR to Idaho.  Estimates are 22-2300 miles (not including coming and going).

From those of you who went before, what does the fee cover?

Who is in?  Will Dan host us in Seattle before returning?

Well, Norm, I cannot host you and Capt. Bob in Seattle because I won't be there.

But there may be a possibility on Vashon Island, which is only a 20-minute ferry ride from West Seattle . . we would normally be there from the Friday before Labor Day weekend to the following Sunday.

RE: [emrat:6093] Three Flags Info

They added a 5th day because of the extra distance they added to celebrate the 40th anniversary.  So its a leave here on Tuesday and return on  Thurs or Friday 10 days later.

RE: [emrat:6091] Three Flags Info

Thanks Capt.  I'm planning on it too.  I put together a possible daily route planner (obviously modifiable once one knows the check points).  This has no real thought as to roads, that would come later.

Norm,

The entry fee covers all the swage, check point support and the banquet. The swage is really good. I.E. Cap, tee-shirt, plaque and if you finish the ride you receive a cool belt buckle. The banquet is outstanding.

At this time I'm planning on participating.
