Re: [emrat:4989] How Would You Spend $18,000?

Easy big fella!  Tongue in cheek.  Right after I sent it I realized I could be sued for libel!

Forget it Dan...Curtis beats the hell out of his bikes and never maintains them!

Curtis already has a R 1200 GS. Perhaps he wants a modern, 2014 water-cooled R1200 GS?

Manuel, I saw a beautiful red 2004 Daytona on Seattle Craig 's List.  I'll see if it's still for sale.

Perhaps we should ask what Curtis is thinking of trading-in?

I don't plan on buying an $18k motorcycle anytime soon.  The KTM would be the only bike that would could even make me consider it.

Dan, putting it in that perspective is a bit evil of you.  It makes me think "why DON'T I have a 955 Daytona?"

Curtis, I'm a little confused.  Is that comment meant to make a case FOR buying a GS1200?

That plus my trade-in and I'd have a shiny new R1200GS ... .

Hmm . . let's see, for $18,000 you could buy at least five 955 cc voluptuous Triumphs (good condition, low mileage) at, say, $3,500 each.

Even a 955 Tiger!

Already did.  The KTM 1190 Adventure R.  Sean took it out too.

You already found me an $18k motorcycle to test ride.  I think your job is done.

I know, I know.  I still want to put a screaming banshee on my bike and the 20s has 3X the range of the SMH10 as well as a slew of other features.

I will find something else for you to spend money on next week hahaha

Erica and I both have the SMH-10 as well.  When I'm not riding with her, I primarily use it for music.  While it might be a little overkill if you just don't want the intercom feature, the ease of use, even for playing your music, is really great.  The primary control is a giant button in the middle that you can't miss.  Volume up and down is just a turn of the giant dial. Skipping forward or backward on your playlist is just a matter of mashing that giant dial down and turning it forward or backwards.

SMH-20s?  Sean, you and Sara are really wanting us to spend a lot of money.  I already have the Screaming Banshee on my wish list, now there is going to be an SMH-20?

Sara and I currently have the Sena SMH10.  We use them with the wired rather than the boom mic.  We like them lots

Thanks for the tip, Sean. I dont need intercom but if the sound quality is that good, I may have to splurge.
My helmet is a Nolan. It is one that is N-COM ready. I looked at N-COM but it is pricy and their packaging is very complicated. Looking for something simpler.

One thing with the UCLEAR models are that the microphones are integrated into the speakers. This makes the speakers significantly fatter than other models.  You need to ensure that your helmet model as adequate recesses for the speakers.  Not all do.

If the decision to purchase is not too price or time sensitive, you might also want to wait for the sales and reviews of the Sena 20s to begin.  Sena claims the 20s will have "HD quality crystal clear and natural sound."   But until reviews begin to pop up, who knows what that really means.

Looking for a new pair of Bluetooth speakers. Dont need intercom, just for listening to music and occassionally take calls.

UCLEAR seems to have very good reviews on Amazon. Anyone have them and would they recommend them? How is the sound volume while riding?
